About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect contractors with meaningful annotation work, help contributors consolidate opportunities and build a durable portfolio, and run projects that directly shape next-generation AI systems.

About AI training and this role

AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human work behind how models learn to understand language and audio. Contributors review model outputs, transcribe audio, add metadata, and mark nuances machines miss — work that’s remote, flexible, and accessible to people with language skills and attention to detail.

This role focuses on French-language audio transcription and annotation: improving automated transcripts, tagging linguistic features, and noting dialect and transcription errors so models get better at real-world French.

The role

You’ll be a contractor working part-time on transcription and annotation tasks for French (France) audio. The position is remote, entry-level friendly, and requires reliable, deadline-oriented delivery and clear written communication in English.

  • Schedule: part-time contractor, 20+ hours per week.
  • Location: fully remote; worldwide applicants accepted.
  • Employment type: contractor / part-time.
  • Pay: hourly, USD $10–$25/hr (projects may pay up to $25/hr).

What you’ll do day-to-day

Work independently to review, correct, and enrich machine-generated French transcripts. You'll listen carefully, fix errors, and add multilayered metadata so audio and transcripts become high-quality training examples.

  • Review and correct French transcriptions for accuracy and naturalness.
  • Add detailed metadata tags and linguistic annotations to transcripts.
  • Identify dialect, accents, background noise, and transcription errors.
  • Deliver work on deadline and communicate progress or issues clearly in English.

Requirements and skills

Candidates must meet the role’s language and work-style requirements. This role values accuracy, organization, and remote-working discipline more than prior industry experience.

  • Fluency in French (France) with strong comprehension and expression.
  • Experience correcting or refining machine-generated transcriptions.
  • Experience with metadata tagging and linguistic annotation.
  • Professional-level English for written and verbal communication.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to work independently.

Helpful background and how to apply

Relevant experience as a transcriber, audio engineer, or data annotator is helpful but not required. Familiarity with language technologies and working in distributed teams is a plus. If you match the requirements, applying is straightforward: create an OpenTrain account, complete your profile, and submit your application so we can review your fit for this contractor role.

  • Helpful but not required: audio engineering, professional transcription, or previous annotation work.
  • Helpful but not required: experience with multicultural or distributed remote teams and basic familiarity with ML data workflows.
  • How to apply: sign up on OpenTrain, build your profile, and submit your application for this role.
