The CAM Programmer Role
OpenTrain AI is seeking a CAM Programmer to develop advanced CNC toolpaths and instructional materials for CAM best practices. You will apply your expertise in multi-axis programming to create high-quality, real-world inputs that support the training of next-generation AI systems.
This is a remote, part-time contractor opportunity requiring 20 or more hours per week. Compensation is listed at $50–$100 per hour, depending on the project and applicable engagement details.

What You'll Do
You will combine practical CAM programming, manufacturing judgment, simulation, and technical communication to produce accurate and useful project deliverables.
Develop precision CAM toolpaths in Autodesk Fusion 360 for 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC machining operations.
Program complex milling and turning geometries across metals and plastics, optimizing for material, tolerance, and machine capabilities.
Simulate and verify toolpaths to identify and resolve collisions, gouging, inefficient cycle times, and other potential issues.
Configure, tune, and document post-processors for CNC machines such as Haas and Makera.
Create detailed setup sheets, tool lists, and strategy documentation for downstream manufacturing professionals.
Author clear instructional content, walkthroughs, or written guidance covering CAM programming techniques and best practices.
Use first-part results and inspection reports to iterate on and refine CAM outputs.
Required Qualifications
This opportunity requires substantial hands-on CAM experience and the ability to explain complex technical decisions clearly. The project is listed as entry level in the source requirements, while the role-specific qualifications call for at least five years of CAM programming experience.
5+ years of hands-on CAM programming experience, including Fusion 360.
Demonstrated proficiency in Autodesk Fusion 360.

Strong understanding of GD&T and design for manufacturing (DFM) principles.
Strong understanding of post-processor configuration.
Expertise programming advanced CNC environments across a range of materials.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Preferred Experience
Experience creating or delivering CAM training content is preferred. This may include instructional materials, walkthroughs, technical guidance, or other content that teaches CAM programming techniques and best practices.
