The Role

OpenTrain AI is recruiting a Biology Benchmark Assessment Specialist to author and verify rigorous multiple-choice questions across core biology domains. You will create assessments that test deep conceptual understanding at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including topics related to pharmaceutical manufacturing, synthetic biology, medical research, and agricultural biology.

This contractor role pays $60-$75 per hour and requires a commitment of 20 or more hours per week. The work is fully remote, asynchronous, and conducted in English.

What You'll Do

You will develop original assessment content and review existing questions for scientific and editorial quality. Each question should be precise, complete, and appropriately challenging for its assigned difficulty level.

• Author original biology multiple-choice questions across pharmaceutical manufacturing, synthetic biology, medical research, agricultural biology, and related domains.
• Rate each question as Medium, Hard, or Expert based on undergraduate and postgraduate difficulty.
• Provide one correct answer and nine plausible but subtly incorrect alternatives.
• Write clear, step-by-step solutions in markdown format.
• Include 1 to 5 academic references for each question from reputable peer-reviewed journals or university repositories.
• Review pre-written questions for clarity, completeness, and precision.
• Document edits made during verification tasks.

Requirements and Preferred Background

This position requires advanced biological knowledge and the ability to communicate complex scientific ideas in excellent written English. A PhD or doctoral candidacy is required in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, or a closely related field. A master's degree may be considered when paired with exceptional depth in a specific subdomain.

• PhD or doctoral candidacy in Biology or a closely related field
• Graduate-level command of biological concepts
• Experience with experimental design and data interpretation
• Excellent written English for complex scientific communication
• Ability to rate question difficulty and provide detailed solution steps
• Prior experience authoring or reviewing academic assessment content
• Research publications in biological sciences are helpful
• Laboratory experience in one or more covered biology domains is helpful
