The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a bilingual Italian scientific AI safety evaluator to assess how advanced AI models handle specialized technical subjects. You will create expert prompts in Italian, evaluate model responses, and classify prompts and conversations using structured guidelines.

The work covers chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear topics. You will use laboratory or computational expertise to identify responses that are reliable, technically sound, helpful, and responsible.

• Remote, part-time contract position
• Commitment of 7 hours per week
• Pay of $50-$54 per hour
• Candidates worldwide may contribute, with preference for Italy or Western Europe

What You'll Do

• Write expert-level prompts in Italian across specialized scientific subjects
• Evaluate and annotate model responses for scientific accuracy and helpfulness
• Review how responses handle sensitive and dual-use content
• Classify prompts and conversations according to structured evaluation guidelines
• Apply scientific safety judgment when reviewing chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear information
• Use laboratory or computational expertise to identify reliable and technically appropriate answers
• Explain how to assess scientific accuracy and helpfulness in Italian-language responses

Requirements

You should have an ongoing or completed PhD in chemistry, biology, or a closely related scientific field, with enough depth to write and evaluate technical content across relevant subject areas. Prior AI or machine learning experience is not required, and workflow training is provided.

• Native or near-native Italian fluency
• Business-level written English
• Deep familiarity with modern laboratory or computational techniques in a scientific subfield
• Strong technical writing and evaluation skills in Italian
• Sound judgment regarding scientific safety and responsible handling of dual-use information
• Ability to assess PhD-level knowledge in chemistry, biology, or a closely related discipline
• Ability to discuss relevant laboratory or computational techniques and specialized expertise

Helpful Scientific Background

Relevant experience may include work or study in organic or inorganic synthesis, molecular biology, microbiology, virology, genetics, radiochemistry, nuclear chemistry, energetic materials, or radiation physics. Experience with chemical safety and security, biosafety and biosecurity, hazardous-materials handling, or reviewing, grading, or red-teaming technical content is also valuable.
