About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building modern artificial intelligence. Experts review documents, evaluate model outputs, and provide clear feedback so AI systems can learn to reason more accurately in specialized fields.

This project focuses on scientific documentation and evaluation. Your subject-matter knowledge will help AI systems learn from rigorous analysis of stochastic bacterial population physics.

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Bacterial Population Physics Modeler to support AI training work involving stochastic bacterial population models and analytical research documentation. Prior AI training experience is not required, but advanced expertise in the relevant scientific subjects is essential.

This is a remote, part-time contractor opportunity requiring less than 20 hours per week. Work is conducted in English, and compensation ranges from $80 to $160 per hour.

  • Contractor and part-time engagement
  • Less than 20 hours per week
  • Worldwide remote opportunity
  • English-language project
  • $80–$160 per hour

What You'll Do

You will analyze and model stochastic two-state Markov processes with gamma-distributed waiting times in the context of bacterial population dynamics. You will assess analytical approaches, review predictions, and document your methodology so the work can support reproducible AI training.

The project requires careful evaluation of population growth, noise, and cell-size regulation using established quantitative methods.

  • Model stochastic two-state Markov processes with gamma-distributed waiting times
  • Apply the Euler-Lotka equation to assess asymptotic population growth rates
  • Benchmark growth-rate predictions under varying noise regimes
  • Develop or review perturbative expansions in small division-noise variance
  • Use renewal theory and first-passage-time analysis
  • Analyze growth-rate fluctuations and cell-size regulation noise
  • Document assumptions, methodological steps, and findings clearly
  • Follow detailed project instructions and support reproducibility

Requirements

This opportunity is listed as entry level with respect to AI training experience, but it requires advanced real-world knowledge of stochastic biological and physical modeling. You should be comfortable working independently as a remote contractor and communicating technical reasoning in clear written English.

  • Advanced knowledge of biophysics, statistical physics, or quantitative biological modeling
  • Experience with two-state Markov processes and gamma-distributed waiting times
  • Ability to apply the Euler-Lotka equation to asymptotic population-growth analysis
  • Experience with perturbative expansions, renewal theory, and first-passage-time analysis
  • Ability to explain growth-rate fluctuations and cell-size regulation assumptions clearly
  • Strong written communication and careful attention to detail
  • Ability to follow detailed project instructions independently
