About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Specialists review technical content, evaluate model reasoning, identify errors, and provide scientifically grounded feedback so AI systems can produce more accurate and useful results.

In this work, your physics expertise will help assess how AI systems handle specialized topics in atomic, molecular, and optical physics. It is an opportunity to contribute directly to the development of advanced AI while working remotely with flexible scheduling.

  • Evaluate and improve AI-generated technical reasoning
  • Apply specialized physics knowledge to model assessment
  • Provide clear critiques and scientifically grounded explanations

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking an AMO Physics AI Training Expert with advanced knowledge of atomic, molecular, and optical physics, optical properties of materials, and atomic-structure calculations. You will assess and improve AI performance through expert analysis, critique, and structured scientific communication.

The role is listed as entry level and is available worldwide on a part-time contractor basis. Compensation is $100-$200 USD per hour, with a time requirement of less than 20 hours per week.

  • Subject area: AMO physics and optical properties
  • Data type: Documents
  • Work type: Evaluation and rating
  • Language: English

What You'll Do

You will review complex physics reasoning and communicate your assessment in a clear, structured written and verbal format. Your feedback should use concrete examples from legally shareable research or projects.

  • Review ab initio configuration interaction methods used to calculate polarizability in atomic systems
  • Analyze and critique atomic-structure calculations involving the Yb-171 and Yb-174 isotopes
  • Identify and explain sigma and pi transitions in relevant atomic spectra
  • Apply physical principles to evaluate technical reasoning
  • Provide clear, concrete examples from legally shareable research or projects
  • Communicate complex scientific concepts in a structured written and verbal format

Requirements

This role requires advanced physics knowledge and specialized experience with atomic-structure and quantum chemistry calculations. An advanced degree in Physics, or equivalent experience, is required, with a focus on AMO physics or optical properties of materials.

  • Advanced knowledge of atomic, molecular, and optical physics or optical properties of materials
  • Experience with ab initio quantum chemistry calculations and configuration interaction approaches to polarizability
  • Strong understanding of atomic-structure computation techniques for ytterbium isotopes, especially Yb-171 and Yb-174
  • Ability to distinguish and explain sigma versus pi transitions in atomic spectra
  • Clear, structured written and verbal communication of complex scientific concepts

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is suited to a physics specialist who can combine deep AMO knowledge with careful technical evaluation. Applicants should be comfortable examining sophisticated calculations, explaining the underlying physical principles, and presenting their conclusions clearly.

  • Physics specialists focused on AMO physics
  • Experts in optical properties of materials
  • Researchers or practitioners familiar with atomic-structure computation
  • Contributors who can explain highly technical concepts precisely in English

How It Works

As an OpenTrain contractor, you will contribute your domain expertise to AI training work through document-based evaluation and rating. The flexible, part-time format is designed for specialists who want to help shape how AI systems reason about advanced scientific subjects while managing other commitments.
