About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help people discover and grow freelance work that shapes how modern AI systems behave, letting contributors build a unified portfolio of AI-training experience.

  • We focus on remote, flexible projects that are accessible to contributors with diverse backgrounds.
  • OpenTrain connects you to hands-on roles where your evaluations and documentation directly improve AI systems.

About AI training and agentic coding work

AI training is the human side of building intelligent systems: people annotate, test, and review model outputs so AI learns safely and reliably. Agentic coding work specifically uses autonomous coding agents to plan, write, and iterate on software, and requires testing, critique, and reproducible workflows.

This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and AI evaluation—you'll run practical experiments with coding assistants, judge quality and hallucinations, and document step-by-step best practices that other engineers can follow.

  • Work is remote and flexible, often ideal as part-time freelance work.
  • Contributors help shape how coding assistants reason, debug, and produce maintainable code.

The role

As an Agentic AI Coding Expert, you'll use autonomous AI coding agents to execute, evaluate, and improve real software workflows. Your work will emphasize clear rationale, reproducible processes, and actionable feedback for agentic development environments.

  • Contract, part-time role with a typical commitment of 20+ hours per week.
  • Entry-level is welcome, but you must demonstrate hands-on familiarity with AI coding tools and software workflows.

What you'll do

You will complete practical exercises and day-to-day tasks that show you can delegate multi-step technical work to AI systems, validate outputs, and create lasting documentation.

  • Execute and document complex software engineering workflows driven by autonomous coding agents.
  • Plan, implement, debug, and refactor code while explaining reasoning and reviewing agent outcomes.
  • Evaluate AI-generated code for mistakes, hallucinations, performance, and maintainability.
  • Compare outputs from multiple AI systems and assess reasoning quality and coding performance.
  • Draft reproducible process documentation and best practices for agentic development environments.
  • Provide practical feedback on coding assistants, CLIs, and automation tools.

Requirements

The role requires technical familiarity with coding agents, prompt engineering, and iterative evaluation. Preserve all listed requirements when applying.

  • Experience delegating multi-step technical tasks to AI coding tools.
  • Ability to review AI-generated code for errors, hallucinations, and quality issues.
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering and iterative AI collaboration patterns.
  • Background in software engineering, DevOps, data science, ML engineering, or technical automation.
  • Excellent written English for documenting workflows and giving actionable feedback.
  • Fluency in English (required); work is open to contributors worldwide.

Compensation, schedule, and labeling details

This is a contractor, part-time position paying between $70 and $126 per hour, with the top rate listed at $126/hr. Expect to work 20+ hours per week and complete hands-on practical exercises that demonstrate your skills.

  • Payment type: hourly contractor pay (USD).
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours per week, flexible scheduling.
  • Work involves computer code programming tasks and evaluation/rating label types.

How to apply and what happens next

Apply with examples of prior technical work and a short note describing how you delegate tasks to coding agents. Successful applicants will complete practical evaluation exercises that show hands-on familiarity with agentic workflows and documentation skills.

  • Provide examples or links to prior code, automation scripts, or workflow documentation if available.
  • Be prepared to complete short practical tasks that demonstrate your ability to plan, run, and critique agent-driven code.
  • OpenTrain is the hiring organization and will manage contracting and payments for this role.
