About AI training and this opportunity

AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building AI — people prepare, review, and record the examples models learn from. Contributors work remotely on flexible schedules and play a direct role in shaping how speech and voice systems behave.

This role supports text-to-speech (TTS) systems by providing clean, natural, and expressive voice recordings in African American English. Work is contractor-based and suitable for experienced or near-professional voice talent.

The role — key facts

We are hiring USA-based African American voice actors to record conversational, narrative, instructional, and varied script types for TTS training and evaluation. This is a remote, part-time contractor role with a minimum weekly expectation and fixed hourly pay.

• Rate: $50.00 USD per hour (pay-per-hour).
• Time requirement: 20+ hours per week (part-time, contractor).
• Location: Must be based in the United States and deliver African American English voice performance.
• Experience level: Entry level (professional or near-professional recording experience recommended).
• Data type: Audio recording and data collection for TTS systems.

What you'll do

You will record high-quality voice samples and alternate takes that help train and evaluate speech models. Deliveries must be consistent across sessions and follow strict recording and file-format guidelines.

• Record clear, natural, and expressive performances across conversational, narrative, instructional, and similar scripts.
• Maintain consistent accent, tone, pacing, and pronunciation across sessions.
• Follow detailed recording instructions for environment, microphone setup, and file formatting.
• Provide alternate takes with different emotional or stylistic readings when requested.
• Complete multiple takes when varied emotion, emphasis, or delivery style is needed.

Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate reliable voice delivery, a suitable recording environment, and the ability to follow scripts and technical instructions. All required details below come from the project specification.

• USA-based African American English voice delivery is required.
• Experience in voice acting, dubbing, narration, podcasting, or broadcasting.
• Professional or near-professional recording setup with a quality microphone and a quiet space.
• Strong command of intonation, diction, and emotional range.
• Ability to follow scripts precisely while keeping delivery natural and consistent.
• Reliable availability during the project period to meet the 20+ hrs/week expectation.

Helpful background (not required)

The following skills can make your application stronger and help you work more efficiently, but they are optional unless specified in project communications.

• Experience recording for TTS, audiobooks, IVR systems, or AI voice datasets.
• Familiarity with audio editing tools such as Audacity, Adobe Audition, or Reaper.
• Ability to perform multiple vocal styles including conversational, corporate, energetic, and calm.
