About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role, connecting qualified experts with projects that help develop and evaluate advanced AI systems.

  • Free OpenTrain account and streamlined application process
  • Remote contract work with flexible part-time hours
  • Opportunity to apply specialized engineering expertise to cutting-edge AI development

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts create examples, assess model outputs, and explain technical reasoning so AI systems can produce more accurate and reliable results. In this project, your aerodynamics and computational fluid dynamics knowledge will support engineering-focused training and evaluation.

  • Help AI systems reason about computational fluid dynamics and aerodynamic analysis
  • Review generated solutions for incorrect assumptions and physically unrealistic outputs
  • Contribute to a fast-growing field shaping how modern AI is built

The Aerodynamics Expert Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking an Aerodynamics Expert to create, solve, review, and validate AI training tasks involving computational fluid dynamics and aerodynamic analysis. You will use professional judgment to assess modeling decisions, simulation results, and the technical validity of engineering solutions.

This is a contractor, part-time project expected to run for 3 to 6 months. The expected commitment is less than 20 hours per week, with compensation of $80 to $130 USD per hour.

  • Role: Aerodynamics Expert
  • Contract type: Contractor and part-time
  • Expected duration: 3 to 6 months
  • Expected commitment: Less than 20 hours per week
  • Pay: $80-$130 USD per hour

What You'll Do

You will work across the CFD task lifecycle, from defining simulation setups to validating outputs and reviewing AI-generated engineering work. Clear technical communication is essential because each task must reflect sound aerodynamic and fluid-mechanics reasoning.

  • Create geometries, computational domains, and meshes
  • Set initial and boundary conditions
  • Run CFD simulations and analyze forces and flow outputs
  • Automate preprocessing, execution, parameter sweeps, postprocessing, and validation with Python
  • Perform mesh-independence studies and engineering sanity checks
  • Compare results with analytical, experimental, or reference data
  • Create, solve, review, and validate AI training tasks
  • Identify incorrect assumptions, convergence problems, and physically unrealistic AI-generated solutions
  • Justify modeling assumptions, mesh strategies, boundary conditions, and solver settings

Requirements

This project requires advanced knowledge of fluid mechanics and applied aerodynamics, along with hands-on computational fluid dynamics experience. You must be able to work independently with technical tools and explain your reasoning clearly in fluent English.

  • MS or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering specializing in aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, or thermofluids
  • Alternatively, a relevant BS degree with at least 1-2 years of professional or research experience
  • Strong fluid mechanics and applied aerodynamics knowledge
  • Relevant aerospace aerodynamics and computational fluid dynamics experience
  • CFD experience and Python proficiency
  • Experience with CLI-accessible, scriptable, configurable, or programmatic engineering tools
  • Ability to diagnose convergence and physical-validity issues
  • Ability to communicate technical reasoning clearly
  • Fluent English proficiency
  • Ability to discuss relevant Aerodynamics Expert experience

Who Should Apply

Apply if you have the academic background or professional experience to evaluate sophisticated aerodynamic simulations and can bring careful engineering judgment to AI training tasks. The project is open to candidates based in the listed countries.

  • Eligible locations: Canada, Australia, United States, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Italy, and Ireland
  • Expert-level experience in aerospace aerodynamics and computational fluid dynamics
  • Comfort working independently on technical evaluation and validation
  • Availability for fewer than 20 hours per week during the project
