About AI training work

AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback) is the human side of building intelligent systems: people create examples, rate model outputs, and give the judgments models learn from. This work is remote, flexible, and accessible — a practical way to apply professional expertise to shape how AI performs.

As an Accounting AI Training Expert you'll contribute high-value, judgment-based work that helps models reason about real accounting tasks and professional standards.

  • 100% remote: work from anywhere with a computer and internet connection (this role is US-based).
  • Flexible, part-time contract work that can fit alongside other commitments.
  • Direct impact: your feedback and examples improve how AI handles accounting workflows.

The role

We are hiring an Accounting AI Training Expert to design realistic accounting scenarios, evaluate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy and standards compliance, and craft structured examples and feedback that guide model behavior.

This is a contract, part-time role at 20+ hours per week. Pay range is USD $80–$120 per hour (typical rate up to $120/hr). Applicants must be located in the US and fluent in English.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time.
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours/week.
  • Pay: Hourly, USD $80–$120/hr (rate varies by assignment).
  • Languages: English required. Location: United States only.

What you'll do

Work centers on creating structured training data and judgment-based review across audit, tax, financial reporting, bookkeeping, controllership, forensic accounting, and accounting systems.

  • Create accounting scenarios and task prompts from real-world work: financial statements, reconciliations, journal entries, audit procedures, tax filings, month-end close, and internal controls.
  • Review AI-generated accounting responses for accuracy, GAAP and IFRS compliance, and sound professional judgment.
  • Write structured examples that show step-by-step professional reasoning.
  • Provide clear, actionable written feedback to improve model outputs.
  • Collaborate asynchronously with a research team to refine examples and evaluation criteria.

Requirements

You must meet the core professional and technical requirements below to ensure high-quality, standards-based annotation and evaluation.

  • 3+ years of professional experience in accounting, audit, tax, bookkeeping, or finance operations.
  • Active professional credential: CPA, CA, ACCA, CMA, EA, or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Ability to judge GAAP and IFRS compliance in accounting outputs.
  • Familiarity with common accounting tools such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, and Excel.
  • Strong written communication, attention to detail, and ability to produce structured feedback.

Helpful background

The following experiences are not required but will help you hit the ground running and contribute higher-value examples and critiques.

  • Experience across accounting specialties such as public accounting, corporate finance, advisory, or firm-based practice.
  • Prior work creating structured training examples or evaluating AI outputs.
  • Comfort working asynchronously with research or product teams on iterative tasks.

How it works & how to apply

Assignments are delivered through OpenTrain’s project workflows and are completed asynchronously with a research team. You'll receive guidelines, sample tasks, and review criteria for each assignment and submit examples and ratings via our platform.

To apply, create or sign in to your OpenTrain profile, complete the required screening tasks for this role, and submit your professional credentials and résumé. OpenTrain will use your application and screening results to match you to assignments.

  • Assignments include text-generation tasks and evaluation/rating work.
  • Work is evaluated for quality; higher accuracy and consistent feedback can lead to more assignments and higher rates.
