About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect skilled contributors with meaningful projects that turn real professional work into training data, and we help freelancers build a unified AI training portfolio they control.

This role is offered by OpenTrain AI. Creating an OpenTrain account is free — it’s how contributors discover projects, apply, and grow into durable freelance careers in AI training.

Why AI training for tax professionals is important

AI training is the human side of building intelligence: professionals create examples, critique outputs, and teach models to handle real-world tasks. For tax, that means making sure models understand tax rules, defensible positions, and practical workflows used in practice.

Work in this field is remote and flexible, and contributors directly shape how AI handles complex, compliance-sensitive domains. Projects often require subject-matter expertise and reward precise, well-documented feedback.

The role

As a Tax Accounting AI Trainer you'll translate professional tax experience into high-quality training data. You will design realistic tax scenarios, evaluate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy and defensibility, and provide clear written feedback that improves model behavior.

This is a contractor, part-time role for U.S.-based contributors. Tasks are text-focused and include RLHF, evaluation rating, and text-generation work performed asynchronously with a research team.

  • Employment: Contractor, Part-time
  • Location: United States only
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours per week
  • Data type: Text (RLHF, evaluation ratings, and text generation)

What you'll do

  • Create realistic tax scenarios covering return preparation, tax provision under ASC 740, notices and IDRs, controversy support, tax planning, and estimated payments.
  • Review AI-generated tax answers and outputs for technical accuracy and defensible positions.
  • Write clear, constructive feedback and correction notes that help models learn correct tax reasoning and authoritative citations.
  • Collaborate asynchronously with researchers to refine training data and improve overall data quality.

Requirements

You must bring professional tax credentials and practical experience; this is expert-level work that depends on real tax judgment and documented reasoning.

  • CPA or EA credential (required).
  • Clear tax sub-specialty in corporate, individual, partnership, SALT, or international/cross-border tax.
  • Public accounting or in-house tax experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Ability to evaluate AI-generated tax outputs for technical accuracy and defensible positions.
  • Strong written communication and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Fluent English (work language).

Compensation & schedule

Hourly pay is listed at $80–$120 USD per hour. The role requires a minimum commitment of 20+ hours per week and is structured as a contractor engagement.

Work is remote and asynchronous; you will coordinate with researchers and submit written feedback and annotations as assigned.

  • Payment type: Pay per hour (USD).
  • Rate range: $80–$120 per hour.
  • Schedule: Flexible, 20+ hours/week, U.S. time zones preferred.
