About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help freelancers discover projects, consolidate proof-of-work, and grow a durable portfolio that shows real experience training AI systems.

For every role OpenTrain hires and contracts directly. We prioritize clear deliverables, transparent pay, and practical pathways for contributors to build long-term freelance work in the fast-growing AI training industry.

About AI training and 2D asset work

AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building intelligent systems: people create, review, and rate examples that models learn from. Visual datasets—illustrations, project files, and short animations—are essential for teaching models artistic workflows and output quality.

This role focuses on producing high-quality Krita files and visual assets used as training input and evaluation material for image-focused AI models.

The role

You will create polished 2D visual assets, Krita project files, and simple animation sequences that help train and evaluate AI systems. Work is remote, contract-based, and suitable for entry-level contributors who can demonstrate practical Krita skill through a portfolio.

  • Time commitment: 20+ hours per week.
  • Pay: Hourly, USD $20–$70 per hour (PAY_PER_HOUR).
  • Employment types: Contractor, Part-time.
  • Languages: English required.
  • Location: Worldwide (remote).
  • Experience level: Entry level; a strong portfolio is required.

What you'll do

Deliver Krita-native artwork and files that meet project specifications and help refine model behavior. Expect to follow workflows, deliver on deadlines, and communicate clearly about creative choices and file structure.

  • Create 2D illustrations, assets, and graphics using Krita.
  • Produce simple 2D animation sequences and provide project files.
  • Use Krita brushes, layers, and vector tools to deliver polished work.
  • Follow end-to-end workflows to meet requirements and timelines.
  • Provide clear written and verbal creative feedback and collaborate remotely.
  • Support training and evaluation of AI models by aligning deliverables to specs.

Required skills and qualifications

We require demonstrable Krita proficiency and the ability to produce finished art and working project files that other artists or engineers can inspect and reuse.

  • Proven experience with Krita, including brushes, layers, and vector functionality.
  • Strong portfolio of 2D illustration or graphic design work (Krita work preferred).
  • Ability to create simple 2D animations inside Krita.
  • Solid understanding of project workflows within Krita and disciplined file organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for remote collaboration.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work independently.
  • Basic knowledge of animation principles is preferred.

Helpful background

These are not strict requirements but will help your application stand out. Contributions to open-source art projects or community involvement indicate strong practical experience with Krita workflows.

  • Active involvement in the Krita community or open-source 2D art projects.
  • Portfolio samples showing personal or collaborative Krita-based projects.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring others in digital art or critique.

How work is structured and what to expect

Assignments focus on producing reusable Krita files and labeled visual examples for model training and evaluation. You will receive specifications for each task and deliver assets that meet format, layer, and labeling guidelines.

OpenTrain lets you centralize proof-of-work so your portfolio grows with completed projects. Payments are hourly for this role; the posted pay range is $20–$70/hr and actual rate will be set per engagement based on task complexity and experience.

  • Deliverables typically include Krita project files, exported images/animation frames, and short notes explaining workflow or layer usage.
  • Tasks may be used for data collection and evaluation rating of image datasets.

How to apply

Prepare a portfolio highlighting Krita projects (files, exports, and any animation sequences). Emphasize examples that show your use of brushes, layers, vectors, and clean file organization.

When you apply through OpenTrain, include links to sample Krita files and a brief note about your availability for 20+ hours/week and desired hourly rate within the posted range.
