About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect skilled contributors with projects that teach and refine AI systems — a fast-growing, flexible way to work in tech.

About AI Training Work

AI training (data labeling/annotation) is the human side of how modern AI learns. Contributors prepare and improve examples — including code and web content — that models use to learn correct behavior and produce better outputs.

This project focuses on web development artifacts: you will evaluate website screenshots, produce precise annotations and Q&A, and propose or implement HTML/CSS/JS improvements so models learn how to reason about, generate, and fix web UI code.

The Role

We are hiring frontend developers based in the USA or Canada to work as contract contributors on an AI data project. You will create detailed annotations, write question-and-answer pairs, and edit or improve HTML/CSS/JS derived from website screenshots.

  • Employment: Contractor, part-time.
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours per week.
  • Location: Must be located in the USA or Canada.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years professional frontend development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).

What You’ll Do

Your everyday tasks will combine technical work with careful annotation. Expect to analyze web elements, annotate structure and behavior, create Q&A items that explain or test the UI, and edit front-end code to meet project specifications.

  • Create high-quality, detailed annotations from website screenshots.
  • Write question-and-answer pairs that describe UI intent, accessibility, behavior, or bugs.
  • Propose and implement HTML/CSS/JS edits to meet provided requirements or to correct issues.
  • Ensure responsive design and cross-browser compatibility in code edits.
  • Follow project guidelines for formatting, metadata, and submission.

Requirements

You must meet every required qualification below — we cannot consider applicants outside the stated criteria.

  • Located in the USA or Canada.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in frontend development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Strong understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail for annotations and code quality.
  • Able to start immediately and commit to deadlines and the 20+ hour weekly expectation.
  • Contractor status and willingness to submit an hourly rate (maximum $25/hour; target $20/hour).

How You'll Be Evaluated / Interview

Hiring decisions will weigh your submitted hourly rate (be competitive, up to $25/hr) alongside technical accuracy and written English ability. We use short technical and written prompts during screening to assess skills and communication.

  • Sample HTML question: Explain the difference between id and class attributes and when to use each.
  • Sample CSS question: Describe how you'd implement a responsive grid layout and which properties you'd use.
  • Sample JavaScript question: Explain closures with an example and a use case.
  • English proficiency: Describe a challenging recent project and how you resolved it; explain a technical issue to a non-technical client.
  • Interviewers will score technical answers and written responses; strong, clear explanations will improve your chances.

How to Apply

Submit your OpenTrain application with your hourly rate (up to $25/hr) and availability. Include a short portfolio or links to relevant work showing HTML/CSS/JS examples and any samples of annotated or documented UI work if available.

Because this role emphasizes written clarity, include a brief written answer (2–4 paragraphs) to the English proficiency prompt: describe a recent challenging project and how you resolved it.

  • Compensation: pay is hourly as submitted by you; project sets a maximum of $25/hr and a target of $20/hr. The posted hourly value is $23/hr for reference.
  • Work model: remote contractor, part-time with flexible scheduling, but immediate availability and the ability to meet deadlines are required.
