About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Contributors provide high-quality examples, write and evaluate model responses, and explain judgments so AI systems can learn to reason and perform more effectively.

This project focuses on text generation, evaluation rating, and written analysis. Your UI and visual design expertise will help create clear, well-reasoned input for next-generation AI systems, and prior AI experience is not required.

  • Contribute to a fast-growing, cutting-edge technology field
  • Use your professional design knowledge to improve AI behavior
  • Work remotely with a flexible contractor arrangement

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking an intermediate UI / Visual Designer Specialist for a writing-intensive design systems project. You will critically assess digital interfaces, explain your design reasoning, and develop practical guidance around visual design, component libraries, accessibility, and responsive experiences.

The work requires fluent English and advanced English writing skills. You should be comfortable turning detailed design knowledge into structured, persuasive written rationales and documentation.

  • Role type: Contractor
  • Location: Remote and worldwide
  • Project duration: Expected to run for 1 to 3 months
  • Working language: English
  • Experience level: Intermediate

What You'll Do

You will complete text-based generation and evaluation tasks grounded in UI design systems and visual interface design. Your work will combine interface critique, design documentation, and clear written explanations of design decisions.

  • Write structured, well-reasoned rationales for design decisions, analysis, and recommendations
  • Develop and articulate principles, patterns, and guidelines for robust design systems
  • Review, refine, and document component libraries for clarity, consistency, and accessibility
  • Create visually engaging Figma mockups using sound color, typography, spacing, and responsive design practices
  • Produce comprehensive design documentation for diverse audiences
  • Address accessibility standards and usability in both interface design and supporting documentation
  • Complete text labeling, text generation, and evaluation rating workflows

Requirements And Qualifications

You should bring substantial practical experience in UI, visual, or product design, supported by a strong portfolio of digital work. The role values both visual craft and the ability to communicate complex design choices clearly and analytically.

  • At least 3 years of experience in UI, visual, or product design
  • Deep expertise in typography, color theory, visual hierarchy, layout, and responsive design
  • Proficiency in Figma
  • Experience with design systems and component libraries
  • Experience documenting design systems or writing component guidelines with detailed rationales
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards such as WCAG and their practical application
  • Fluent English proficiency and advanced English writing skills
  • Experience with text labeling workflows
  • Experience with text generation and evaluation rating tasks

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is suited to UI and visual design specialists who enjoy explaining not only what works in an interface, but why. It is particularly relevant for designers experienced in design systems, component documentation, accessibility, and written critique.

Background from leading universities or highly regarded organizations is valued. No prior experience working in AI is necessary; your subject-matter knowledge and ability to produce precise, high-quality written work are the foundation of the role.

  • UI designers with a strong digital portfolio
  • Visual designers experienced in typography, color, hierarchy, and layout
  • Product designers who document systems and component decisions
