About OpenTrain

OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role. OpenTrain is the leading platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling, helping contributors discover projects, build a professional profile, and apply in minutes.

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Contributors create and review real-world examples that help modern AI systems understand images, video, language, movement, and environments.

About the AI Training Work

This project supports real-world robotics applications through carefully captured video of natural human activities. Consistent third-person footage helps AI systems learn from a stable view of a person's full body while also understanding the surrounding environment.

The work is remote and flexible in structure, although recordings take place in real indoor, outdoor, and vehicle environments. You will choose or complete assigned activities while following detailed framing, equipment, duration, quality, and safety instructions.

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Third-Person Video Data Collector to create exocentric video footage of everyday movement and vehicle navigation. You will operate an action or 360-degree camera positioned above and behind you, angled slightly downward to keep your entire body and the surrounding environment visible.

This is an entry-level, part-time contractor opportunity requiring 20 or more hours per week. The rate is $20 per hour, and the work is conducted in English.

  • Employment type: Part-time contractor
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours per week
  • Pay: $20 per hour
  • Work scope: Worldwide
  • Primary data type: Video
  • Project focus: Real-world robotics video collection

What You'll Do

You will record continuous, stable footage while completing natural activities and assigned real-world tasks. Each submission must meet the project's technical and visual requirements before it can be accepted for delivery.

  • Record everyday activities while walking, moving through different environments, and completing assigned tasks.
  • Capture footage in indoor, outdoor, and vehicle-navigation settings.
  • Secure the camera to a vehicle when vehicle-based recording requires it.
  • Position the camera above and behind you with a slightly downward angle.
  • Keep your full body and the surrounding environment visible throughout normal movement.
  • Produce continuous clips of at least 60 seconds at a minimum resolution of 720p.
  • Follow recording instructions and operate equipment safely and stably.
  • Submit footage that passes quality review and is accepted for delivery.

Requirements and Equipment

You must have access to your own compatible action or 360-degree camera and be able to configure a secure above-and-behind mounting position. Careful attention to framing, clip duration, image quality, environmental visibility, and safety is essential.

  • Access to an action or 360-degree camera with at least a 170-degree field of view and 720p recording resolution.
  • Ability to use compatible equipment such as an Insta360 X3, X4, X5, or X6, DJI Osmo 360, GoPro MAX, MAX2, or an equivalent camera.
  • Ability to keep your entire body consistently visible while capturing the surrounding environment.
  • Ability to capture stable footage during walking, everyday activities, and vehicle navigation.
  • Ability to follow precise camera-positioning, framing, recording, and safety requirements.
  • Reliable attention to detail when recording continuous clips and completing real-world activities.

Helpful Background

Previous data-collection experience is not required for this entry-level opportunity. Familiarity with action-camera or 360-degree video recording can help you get started, as can access to equipment that supports a stable third-person perspective.

  • Rigid backpack, harness, extension arm, or third-person mounting system.
  • Secure vehicle camera mount.
  • Experience operating action cameras or 360-degree cameras.
  • Comfort completing real-world activities while maintaining consistent camera framing.

Why Build an AI Training Career With OpenTrain
