About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help people discover projects, build a unified AI training profile, and grow a sustainable freelance career in the human side of AI.

We hire and contract contributors directly for roles like this one. Creating an OpenTrain account is free and is how you apply, manage work, and build your portfolio in this fast-growing field.

About AI Training Work

AI training (data labeling, annotation, and human feedback) is the human-centered work that teaches models how to behave. Contributors annotate data, evaluate outputs, and produce the annotations and documentation that modern AI systems learn from.

This work is frequently remote, flexible, and accessible: many roles require strong communication, attention to detail, and domain familiarity rather than prior AI experience, and contributors directly shape how models perform.

The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Technical Content Writer focused on dataset analysis and clear technical documentation. You will analyze public datasets, work with JSON-formatted data, and produce reproducible, traceable deliverables that communicate methods, assumptions, and findings.

This is a contract, part-time role (~20+ hours/week) that requires collaboration with researchers and stakeholders, using Python and notebook-based workflows as needed to validate and demonstrate analyses.

What You'll Do

  • Produce clear, structured technical documentation and written deliverables explaining dataset analysis and reasoning.
  • Analyze public datasets to derive actionable business insights and recommendations.
  • Explain logic and analytic steps in notebooks or other reproducible formats.
  • Work with JSON-based data and keep outputs accurate, versioned, and organized.
  • Use Python scripting for data exploration, validation, and reproducible analysis when required.
  • Document methods, assumptions, and findings with strong traceability and clarity.
  • Collaborate with researchers and stakeholders to refine insights and final deliverables.

Requirements

You must have at least 3+ years of relevant experience in technical writing, dataset analysis, or software development and a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

This role requires strong spoken and written English and familiarity with notebooks or scripting workflows for reproducible analysis.

  • Proven technical writing skills and experience producing structured deliverables.
  • Experience working with JSON and interpreting dataset structures.
  • Working knowledge of Python for exploration, validation, and scripting.
  • Comfort analyzing public datasets and explaining methodology and assumptions.
  • Availability for approximately 20+ hours per week as a contractor (part-time).
  • Eligible applicants must be located in one of these countries: India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana, Bangladesh, Turkey, Brazil, or Mexico.

Who Should Apply

You are a careful communicator who can convert technical analysis into concise narratives and reproducible artifacts. You enjoy working with JSON, notebooks, and Python to validate findings and produce traceable outputs.

Ideal applicants combine analytical rigor, business sense, and technical writing experience, and are comfortable collaborating with researchers to iterate on deliverables.

How It Works / Next Steps

OpenTrain AI is the contracting organization for this role. To apply, create or sign in to your OpenTrain account, complete your profile, and submit an application highlighting relevant writing and dataset-analysis samples.

If selected, you'll work as a contractor on a part-time schedule and deliver documentation, notebooks, and other artifacts according to project milestones. Compensation terms are agreed at contracting and are not listed here.
