About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help specialists find focused, flexible contract work that shapes how modern AI systems behave and grow durable freelance careers.

About AI Training Work

AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building AI: people prepare, review, and judge examples that models learn from. This role is part of that process—experts assess model responses, create gold-standard outputs, and provide precise feedback so models give accurate, defensible tax and audit guidance.

Work is 100% remote and typically flexible; many contributors treat AI training as part-time or freelance work they do alongside other commitments. Projects range from simple ratings to detailed technical writing and RLHF-style evaluation.

The Role

You will work as an hourly remote contractor reviewing and improving AI-generated tax and audit content. Your focus is technical correctness, compliance logic, audit methodology, and producing clear, audit-ready explanations and workpaper-level solutions.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time.
  • Time expectation: 20+ hours/week.
  • Work involves text-based tasks: evaluation ratings, text generation, and RLHF-style feedback.

What You Will Do

This is expert-level annotation and quality work: you will evaluate model outputs, write gold-standard answers, and document why one response is correct or not. Expect to produce defensible technical explanations suitable for audit and tax review.

  • Review AI-generated tax and audit answers for accuracy, reasoning, and completeness.
  • Write precise feedback that identifies incorrect tax treatment, audit methodology gaps, and unsupported conclusions.
  • Create detailed prompts and gold-standard outputs for tax and audit scenarios.
  • Evaluate and rank multiple model responses by correctness, clarity, and practical usefulness.
  • Test outputs for unsafe or noncompliant guidance, bias, and weak financial reporting linkage.
  • Produce explanations that demonstrate correct methods and audit-ready documentation standards.

Requirements

Candidates must bring professional tax and/or audit experience, strong technical knowledge, and excellent English communication. All required qualifications below come from the hiring brief.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, finance, taxation, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional tax and/or audit experience in public accounting, advisory, internal audit, or industry.
  • Strong command of tax fundamentals: taxable income adjustments, credits, deductions, nexus/PE considerations, withholding, VAT/GST where relevant.
  • Strong command of audit fundamentals: planning, materiality, risk assessment, control testing, substantive procedures, sampling, and audit evidence quality.
  • Ability to prepare or review clear, defensible workpapers, reconciliations, and documentation.
  • Minimum C1 English proficiency and a highly detail-oriented approach to fact-checking.
  • Prior experience with AI data training, audit QA, tax technical writing, or policy interpretation is strongly preferred.
  • Must be reliable, self-directed, and comfortable working across time zones.

Helpful Background

These additional skills are useful but not strictly required — they help when judging internal controls, SOX considerations, and financial-statement impacts.

  • Familiarity with internal controls such as segregation of duties, approvals, and access controls.
  • SOX concepts and experience are a plus.
  • Comfort evaluating debit/credit consistency, timing and cutoff, tax logic, and financial statement linkage.
  • Experience documenting tax research and conclusions on uncertain positions.

Compensation, Location, and Logistics

This is an hourly remote contractor role. Hiring is open across multiple countries; you will set flexible hours and complete work independently.

Hourly pay varies by country and ranges from $40 to $80 USD per hour, reaching up to $80/hr for some locations. Exact rates depend on candidate location and experience.

  • Countries hiring: BD, BT, BR, KH, DE, IN, ID, MY, NP, PK, SG, LK, TH, PH, US, TL, VN.
  • Data type: Text. Labeling tasks: Evaluation rating, text generation, and RLHF.
  • No specific labeling software is required in the posting; contractors should be comfortable working with online annotation tools and documentation.

How to Apply

If you meet the requirements, apply through OpenTrain and include examples or a brief summary of relevant tax/audit work. Highlight certifications (CPA, ACCA, EA, CIA, or local equivalents) and any prior AI training or technical writing experience.

Applications should demonstrate domain expertise, attention to detail, and ability to produce clear, defensible technical explanations.
