OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We bring together projects, allow contributors to build a unified portfolio of their AI-training work, and make it easier to find steady, skilled contract opportunities in the human side of AI.
Why AI training and data labeling
AI training is the human work that teaches models how to behave: annotating data, reviewing model outputs, and giving real-world feedback that improves quality. These roles are often fully remote, flexible, and accessible to skilled professionals who want to apply domain expertise outside of traditional full-time engineering work.
Work remotely and choose flexible hours that fit your schedule.
Contribute hands-on to how production AI systems handle real-world front-end engineering questions.
Build a verifiable portfolio of AI-training contributions on OpenTrain.
The role
OpenTrain is hiring a Senior Front-End Engineering AI Trainer to provide high-quality, subject-matter technical input on text-based fine-tuning tasks. You will use your front-end expertise and UX collaboration experience to judge, improve, and create examples that help generative models answer engineering questions accurately and safely.
This is a contractor, part-time role designed for experienced front-end engineers comfortable working independently on distributed teams. OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role.
What you'll do
Review and rate model-generated text about front-end engineering topics (React, React Native, HTML, CSS) for fine-tuning datasets.
Provide clear, technical written feedback and suggested corrections that reflect real-world engineering practice.
Create high-quality example prompts and reference answers to improve model instruction-following.
Collaborate with designers and other contributors on UX/UI-related judgments when tasks involve design trade-offs.
Apply hands-on Shopify or similar e-commerce platform experience where project prompts require practical platform knowledge.
Follow detailed rubrics and apply annotation guidelines consistently across tasks.
Requirements
You must demonstrate professional front-end engineering expertise and the ability to communicate technical details clearly in English. Prior AI-training experience is helpful but not required.
Expert-level proficiency with React and React Native.
Strong experience building accessible, responsive interfaces with HTML and CSS.
Experience collaborating on UX/UI decisions with designers.
Hands-on experience with Shopify or similar e-commerce platforms.
Fluent English and strong written communication with attention to detail.
Ability to follow written rubrics and perform consistent, independent work.
Portfolio showing design or development work (required).
Schedule, pay, and logistics
This is part-time contractor work. The role listing states a time requirement of 20+ hours/week; the project description requests availability for 15+ hours/week and the ability to begin tasking within 24–48 hours after onboarding. Please be prepared to start quickly after onboarding.
Pay is listed at $70–$100 per hour. Employment types: contractor and part-time. Work is remote and open worldwide; you will need a reliable internet connection and the ability to work independently.
Who should apply
Experienced front-end engineers who want to contribute domain expertise to improve generative AI models will fit this role best. If you have deep React/React Native experience, a strong portfolio, and familiarity with e-commerce platforms like Shopify, you can make immediate impact on fine-tuning projects.
Engineers who enjoy writing clear technical feedback and examples.
People who want to build a visible AI-training portfolio on OpenTrain.
How it works
Apply through your OpenTrain profile. After onboarding you'll receive tasking instructions, rubrics, and access to the annotation interface for text fine-tuning tasks. Complete assignments independently, follow the guidelines, and submit examples and reviews as instructed.
OpenTrain consolidates your AI-training work into a single portfolio to showcase skills across projects.
You will be paid as a contractor at the agreed hourly rate for approved work.
