You will provide expert feedback used to train AI systems on custom laboratory glassware design and manufacture. The work includes reviewing customer sketches, judging whether apparatus can be built reliably, and explaining fabrication choices, risks, and trade-offs.
You will work with borosilicate and quartz glass, using knowledge of lathe and bench operations, joint design, glass-to-metal seals, graded seals, stress control, and annealing.
- Review sketches for wall thickness, stress points, design integrity, and production challenges.
- Provide technical guidance on custom apparatus made with lathe and bench techniques.
- Recommend joint types, materials, glass-to-metal seals, and graded seals for the intended use.
- Recommend and document annealing schedules that reduce stress and support reliable finished glassware.
- Suggest design changes that improve manufacturability, durability, or performance.
- Prepare detailed quotations based on design complexity, materials, and feasibility.
- Explain project risks, alternative approaches, and technical recommendations in writing and conversation.
What it pays and takes
This is a remote, part-time contractor role.
- Pay: $20 to $60 per hour.
- Location: Remote; open to candidates in the countries specified in the listing.
- Language: Professional fluency in English.
- Experience: Extensive custom laboratory glass apparatus fabrication in a university or company scientific glass shop.
- Technical skills: Expert lathe and bench glassworking in borosilicate and quartz.
