About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is a centralized job board that aggregates data-labeling and AI-training roles from many companies and platforms. Creating an OpenTrain account is free and applying to roles usually takes only a few minutes.

We connect people with remote, flexible opportunities that power modern AI systems — find projects that match your skills without hunting across dozens of sites.

  • Free to join and quick to apply through the OpenTrain platform.
  • Jobs focus on human-centered tasks that help train and improve AI models.

About AI Training Work

AI training (also called data labeling, annotation, or human feedback) is the human work that teaches models how to behave. Tasks range from writing and debugging code to reviewing model outputs and creating labeled examples that improve accuracy and safety.

These projects are often remote and flexible, and they let contributors directly shape how state-of-the-art systems perform.

  • Work can be done from anywhere with a computer or phone and an internet connection.
  • Many projects require attention to detail or domain knowledge; specialist skills can increase opportunity.

The Role

We are seeking Scala developers to contribute to a long-term AI/LLM training project. This is a contractor, part-time role expected to run 6 months or longer.

You will write code snippets and short programs in Scala from prompts, debug AI-generated Scala code, and produce precise training examples that guide model behavior.

  • Commitment required: 25–40 hours per week for a duration of 6+ months.
  • Work arrangement: fully remote with flexibility to set your own hours.
  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time. Pay: $9.28 USD per hour (PAY_PER_HOUR).

What You'll Do

Daily tasks focus on creating high-quality Scala examples and improving model-generated code. Accuracy, readability, and adherence to standards are essential.

You will be asked to follow prompts, produce clear, testable code, and correct or optimize code output by AI systems so it meets defined criteria.

  • Write Scala code snippets and short programs from specific prompts.
  • Debug and improve AI-generated Scala code to meet quality standards.
  • Create precise labeled examples and training datasets for Scala code generation.
  • Refine and optimize Scala implementations for clarity, performance, and correctness.
  • Document edge cases and common failure modes to guide future training.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements. All points below are required unless listed as preferred.

If you do not meet the minimum Scala experience (2+ years), your proposal qualification score will be low (less than 7).

  • Minimum 2 years of professional software development experience with a strong focus on Scala.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to develop, troubleshoot, and optimize Scala code.
  • Effective communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work well in a remote team environment.
  • Stable internet connection and reliable electricity to ensure consistent remote work.
  • Availability to commit 25–40 hours per week for at least 6 months.
  • Prior experience in AI data labeling or training is preferred but not required.
  • Experience level listed: Entry level (per role metadata).

Who Should Apply

Apply if you are a Scala developer who wants to help train advanced AI models and can commit multi-month, part-time hours while working remotely.

The project suits developers who enjoy coding challenges, methodical debugging, and creating reproducible examples that teach models correct behavior.

  • Developers with 2+ years of Scala experience who want flexible, remote contract work.
  • Engineers interested in the intersection of programming and AI model training.
  • Candidates who can reliably meet weekly hour commitments and communicate clearly in English.

How It Works

To apply, create an OpenTrain account (free) and submit your proposal for this listing. After you apply, you will receive a Scala coding assessment to complete as part of the evaluation.

Selected contractors will work remotely, set their own hours within the weekly commitment, and be paid $9.28 USD per hour as a contractor. The project is long-term (6+ months) and requires consistent weekly availability.

  • Application step: submit proposal via OpenTrain; a Scala coding assessment follows submission.
  • Work setup: remote contractor, part-time, flexible hours within the 25–40 hr/week commitment.
  • Compensation: $9.28 USD per hour (PAY_PER_HOUR).
