About this role
OpenTrain is hiring a QGIS Geospatial Mapping Expert to help train next-generation AI systems with high-quality spatial work. You will lead QGIS projects from raw spatial data acquisition and cleaning through final map outputs and comprehensive deliverables, while documenting your workflow, reasoning, and design decisions in real time. The work centers on data management, spatial analysis, map production, cartographic layout building, and troubleshooting issues in QGIS workflows.

What you will do
- Organize, clean, and validate diverse spatial datasets for accuracy and consistency
- Manage projections, coordinate systems, and spatial references to support reliable output quality
- Style and symbolize map layers for clarity, interpretability, and professional presentation
- Build advanced layouts and cartographic products
- Document technical decisions, workflow rationale, and problem-solving steps as you work

Required skills
- Extensive hands-on experience with QGIS and independent GIS project delivery
- Strong knowledge of spatial data formats, coordinate systems, projections, and GIS principles
- Experience producing high-quality spatial analyses, maps, and geospatial outputs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for explaining technical decisions clearly
- Comfort troubleshooting complex GIS workflows and working remotely with consistent documentation

Helpful background
- Experience documenting GIS processes for training, teaching, or AI research
- Background collaborating within multi-disciplinary GIS teams
- Familiarity with other geospatial tools or programming languages

Pay
- $40 to $100 per hour
