About AI Training and Code Evaluation

AI training is the human side of building modern artificial intelligence. People review examples, evaluate model responses, and provide structured feedback that helps AI systems become more accurate, useful, safe, and reliable.

In this role, your Python knowledge will help assess AI-generated code and the work of contributors creating programming-focused training data. Your reviews can directly influence how AI systems understand, generate, and explain software.

  • Work on programming-focused AI training projects
  • Use technical judgment to evaluate model and contributor output
  • Contribute to the development of more reliable AI coding systems

The Python Quality Assurance Lead Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Python Quality Assurance Lead to review AI-generated Python code and trainer QA work across Python training projects. You will evaluate correctness, runtime behavior, debugging quality, readability, maintainability, performance, security awareness, formatting, test coverage, and adherence to project rubrics.

The role also includes writing clear feedback, maintaining Python documentation and style guides, supporting onboarding, and helping improve QA workflows for contributors working on Python tasks.

  • Intermediate experience level
  • Strong English communication skills
  • Python quality assurance, code review, and AI training responsibilities
  • 20+ hours per week
  • Remote contractor position for candidates in the United States

What You'll Do

You will combine hands-on Python expertise with careful rubric-based evaluation. Your feedback will help trainers, reviewers, and contributors resolve recurring issues and produce executable, idiomatic, clearly explained Python content.

  • Review Python code, debugging responses, automation scripts, backend snippets, tests, and explanations for quality and correctness.
  • Check work against project guidelines and project-specific rubrics, then provide precise written feedback.
  • Evaluate logic, runtime behavior, readability, maintainability, performance, security awareness, formatting, and test coverage.
  • Identify recurring issues, escalate critical problems, and help improve contributor quality.
  • Support trainers and QAs with workflow updates, onboarding materials, FAQs, trackers, examples, and documentation.
  • Help keep Python training output executable, idiomatic, clearly explained, and aligned with expectations.
  • Review code for non-executable content, poor exception handling, inefficient algorithms, unsafe file or network operations, hallucinated APIs, and incomplete explanations.

Required Skills and Experience

Candidates should bring substantial professional or instructional experience with Python and the ability to explain technical decisions clearly. Prior experience in Python QA, code review, or AI training is a plus, while the core requirement is strong Python judgment and attention to detail.

  • 3+ years of professional Python development, backend engineering, automation, scripting, QA, code review, teaching, or technical mentoring experience.
  • Strong understanding of Python fundamentals, including data structures, functions, classes, modules, exceptions, comprehensions, iterators, generators, decorators, context managers, packaging, and testing.
  • Ability to assess Python logic, executability, exception handling, algorithm efficiency, API validity, operational safety, and explanation quality.
  • Familiarity with pytest, unittest, typing, mypy, pip, poetry, virtualenv, FastAPI, Flask, Django, requests, asyncio, pandas, SQLAlchemy, GitHub, Docker, and CI/CD is preferred.
  • Comfort working with Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, GitHub, and project management systems.
  • Strong written English communication skills.
  • Experience supporting remote teams of trainers, engineers, reviewers, annotators, educators, or QAs is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with AI training, data annotation, LLM evaluation, code QA, or rubric-based code review is a strong plus.

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is well suited to a Python developer, backend engineer, automation specialist, QA professional, technical mentor, or educator who enjoys examining code closely and helping others improve. It may also appeal to experienced contributors who want to apply software expertise to the fast-growing field of AI training.

You should be comfortable working independently in a remote environment, applying detailed standards consistently, and communicating actionable feedback in English.

  • Python professionals with strong code review or quality assurance instincts
  • Technical mentors and educators who can explain issues clearly
  • Engineers interested in evaluating AI-generated software
  • Candidates located in the United States and available for 20+ hours per week
