OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help professionals discover and grow AI-training work, build a durable freelance portfolio, and turn human feedback work into long-term technical experience.
Why AI training matters
AI training (data labeling and human feedback) is the human layer behind modern AI systems — people prepare, review, and critique examples that models learn from. These roles are often remote, flexible, and accessible, and they give contributors direct influence on how AI behaves.
Role overview
OpenTrain AI is hiring a PHP Quality Assurance Lead to review AI-generated PHP code and trainer QA work across PHP-focused AI training projects. You will evaluate correctness, security, readability, maintainability, and rubric adherence; provide precise written feedback; and help maintain onboarding, documentation, and calibration for trainers and QAs.
What you'll do
Review AI-generated PHP code, backend snippets, debugging responses, API examples, database logic, and tests for correctness and expected runtime behavior.
Evaluate submissions against project guidelines including performance, security, test coverage, and instruction-following.
Provide clear, written technical feedback and answer questions about PHP syntax, frameworks, testing, and rubric interpretation.
Maintain and improve PHP documentation, style guides, examples, trackers, FAQs, honeypots, and onboarding materials.
Support onboarding, calibration, and mentoring for PHP trainers and QAs and identify recurring quality gaps to improve workflows.
Requirements
You must be able to read and evaluate PHP code, explain issues clearly in English, and help other contributors improve their work. The role focuses on technical code quality leadership rather than upstream product work.
Strong PHP 8+ expertise, especially OOP, namespaces, Composer, autoloading, exceptions, type declarations, sessions, HTTP, REST APIs, and database access.
Ability to spot insecure SQL handling, weak validation, flawed logic, outdated syntax, hallucinated APIs, and incomplete explanations.
Experience with code review, QA, mentoring, or similar technical workflows.
Strong English communication skills and comfort giving clear technical feedback.
Preferred experience
Familiarity with Laravel or Symfony and common PHP frameworks.
Experience with PHPUnit, Pest, MySQL or PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines.
Knowledge of static analysis tools and PSR coding standards.
