The Role
OpenTrain AI is seeking a Python Machine Learning Engineer to design, develop, and deliver advanced machine learning solutions for real-world business needs. You will work across the full development lifecycle, from data pipelines and model design through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing optimization.
The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership. You will help set direction, mentor team members, and align machine learning initiatives with business goals and measurable success criteria.
Contractor, part-time remote assignment
Contract duration: three months
Available schedules: 20, 30, or 40 hours per week
Minimum commitment: 20 hours per week
At least four hours per day and four hours of overlap with Pacific Time required
What You'll Do
You will own end-to-end data science and machine learning solution development, translating business objectives into robust architectures that capture relevant logic and context. You will collaborate with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to define problem statements and measurable success metrics.
Build and manage data pipelines, model architectures, deployments, and monitoring systems
Evaluate and optimize models for accuracy, performance, scalability, and practical production use
Apply supervised and unsupervised learning, time-series forecasting, natural language processing, computer vision, and statistical modeling where appropriate
Select suitable models for real-world use cases
Stay current with machine learning research, methods, technologies, and frameworks
Provide technical direction and mentor team members
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistics, or a related quantitative field, along with at least four years of hands-on data science or machine learning development experience.
Strong Python expertise
Practical experience with Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn
Knowledge of data preprocessing and feature engineering
Experience with model tuning and evaluation metrics
Ability to design production-grade machine learning systems
Ability to apply appropriate models to real-world problems
