The Role

OpenTrain AI is recruiting a Python Machine Learning Engineer to design, develop, and deliver advanced machine learning solutions for real-world business needs. You will contribute across the full development lifecycle, from data pipelines and model architecture through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing optimization.

The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership. You will help set direction, mentor team members, and connect machine learning initiatives to business goals and measurable success criteria.

• Remote contractor assignment
• Three-month contract duration
• Available schedules of 20, 30, or 40 hours per week
• At least 20 hours per week required
• At least four hours per day and four hours of overlap with Pacific Time required
• Experience level listed as entry level

What You’ll Do

You will own end-to-end data science and machine learning solution development, translating business objectives into robust architectures that capture relevant logic and context. The work requires collaboration with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to define problem statements and success metrics.

• Build and manage data pipelines, model architectures, deployments, and monitoring systems
• Evaluate and optimize models for accuracy, performance, scalability, and practical production use
• Apply supervised and unsupervised learning, time-series forecasting, natural language processing, computer vision, and statistical modeling where appropriate
• Select suitable models for real-world use cases
• Stay current with machine learning research, methods, technologies, and frameworks
• Provide technical direction and mentor team members

Required Qualifications

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistics, or a related quantitative field is required. Candidates must also have at least four years of hands-on data science or machine learning development experience.

Strong Python expertise and the ability to design production-grade machine learning systems are essential. You should be comfortable taking models from data preparation through evaluation and practical deployment.

• Strong Python proficiency
• Practical experience with Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn
• Knowledge of data preprocessing and feature engineering
• Experience with model tuning and evaluation metrics
• Production-grade machine learning system design skills
• Ability to select and apply suitable models to real-world use cases
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant quantitative field
• At least four years of hands-on data science or machine learning development experience

Helpful Technical Background

The following experience is valuable but described as helpful rather than required. Relevant depth in one or more machine learning disciplines can support the design of effective solutions for varied business problems.

• Deep learning architectures, including convolutional neural networks, recurrent neural networks, or transformers
