The Role

OpenTrain AI is hiring Public Interest Attorneys to evaluate AI-generated legal reasoning across civil justice matters. You will review realistic legal scenarios, assess the quality of legal analysis, identify reasoning gaps, and provide structured expert feedback.

This expert-level contractor role is available to professionals located in the United States. Work is conducted in English and requires less than 20 hours per week.

What You’ll Do

You will apply your legal judgment to assess whether AI-generated responses are accurate, practically useful, and procedurally sound. Your evaluations will help improve AI performance in areas that directly affect civil justice.

  • Review AI-generated legal analyses for accuracy and practical usefulness
  • Evaluate scenarios involving housing, family law, consumer protection, debt collection, and bankruptcy
  • Assess legal reasoning, issue spotting, procedural correctness, and litigation strategy
  • Identify legal errors and recommend improvements
  • Deliver structured written evaluations and feedback

Required Qualifications

This role requires substantial legal expertise and the ability to provide clear, rigorous written analysis. Applicants should be prepared to evaluate legal reasoning against the facts and procedures relevant to civil justice matters.

  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Active U.S. bar admission
  • Strong experience in public interest law or civil litigation
  • Excellent legal writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to review legal reasoning for accuracy, issue spotting, and procedural correctness
  • Familiarity with housing, family law, consumer protection, debt collection, or bankruptcy matters

Preferred Experience

Experience beyond the core qualifications is welcome, particularly where it demonstrates a strong commitment to public interest advocacy or experience developing other legal professionals.

  • Experience in nonprofit legal advocacy
  • Experience with impact litigation
  • Experience in policy advocacy
  • Experience supervising attorneys or legal fellows
