About OpenTrain

OpenTrain AI is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help contributors discover projects, build a professional profile, and apply for opportunities that match their expertise.

As the hiring and contracting organization for this role, OpenTrain is seeking a procurement specialist to contribute directly to the development and evaluation of AI systems.

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building modern artificial intelligence. Experts create examples, assess model outputs, and develop evaluation standards so AI systems can produce more accurate, useful, and reliable results.

In this role, your procurement judgment will help shape how AI systems handle sourcing decisions, supplier comparisons, bid analysis, contract reasoning, and related purchasing challenges.

The Role

OpenTrain AI is recruiting a remote Procurement AI Task and Rubric Author contractor. You will turn complex purchasing judgment into structured AI-training tasks, realistic procurement artifacts, sourcing recommendations, and detailed grading rubrics.

The work covers RFPs, bid analysis, supplier comparison, contract reasoning, and sourcing decisions across IT, industrial, and professional-services procurement. This is a part-time contractor opportunity requiring 20 or more hours per week.

  • Contractor engagement
  • Part-time schedule with 20+ hours per week
  • Remote and worldwide
  • English-language work
  • $30–$65 USD per hour

What You'll Do

You will design expert-level procurement scenarios that accurately reflect the ambiguity and decision-making involved in real purchasing work. You will also create the materials and evaluation criteria needed to assess AI performance against those scenarios.

Clear written and verbal communication will be important as you explain procurement context, evaluation standards, and the rationale behind sourcing decisions.

  • Design tasks based on RFP drafting, bid evaluation, supplier scoring, and contract negotiation scenarios.
  • Create supplier quotations, specification sheets, pricing tables, and technical procurement documentation in varied formats.
  • Develop defensible sourcing recommendations with clear reasoning and detailed vendor comparison matrices.
  • Write grading rubrics for vendor comparison, contract reasoning, and bid analysis.
  • Review and refine tasks and rubrics for quality, relevance, and faithful representation of specialized procurement challenges.
  • Communicate procurement context, evaluation standards, and decision rationale clearly in writing and verbally.

Requirements

This role requires substantial practical procurement experience and strong analytical judgment. You should be comfortable interpreting complex, non-standardized supplier information and explaining why one sourcing recommendation is better supported than another.

Advanced written English is required for producing technical procurement documentation and articulating contract rationale.

  • At least four years of corporate or public-sector procurement experience.
  • Direct expertise in supplier analysis, bid-matrix development, and contract negotiation.
  • Ability to compare non-standardized vendor submissions and justify sourcing recommendations.
  • Deep category knowledge in IT, industrial, or professional-services procurement.
  • Knowledge of procurement best practices, regulatory frameworks, and supplier evaluation methodologies.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical judgment.
  • Advanced written English.

Helpful Background

Experience creating or assessing complex procurement scenarios or benchmarks is helpful. This background can support the development of realistic tasks and evaluation materials that reflect specialized procurement challenges.
