About OpenTrain
OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help people start and grow careers teaching AI by connecting contributors with steady, remote projects across the industry.
This role is posted through OpenTrain AI and is ideal for contributors who want consistent, part-time work supporting real-world machine learning systems.
Why AI training matters
AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Your transcripts and verification decisions will directly shape how speech-enabled models learn to understand Italian.
Many projects are flexible, remote, and accessible—this one is no exception: it pays per hour and is designed for a steady daily cadence that fits around other commitments.
The role
Position: Native Italian Transcriptionist (Italy-based only). This is a long-term, part-time contractor role requiring roughly 1 hour per day, Monday–Friday. Work is done remotely on web-based tools (Labelbox).
Compensation: $11 USD per hour. Tasks include verbatim transcription and simple audio-verification steps (flagging unclear segments, marking unusable audio). Consistency and accuracy are prioritized over speed.
What you'll do day-to-day
Listen to short Italian audio clips and produce clean, standardized verbatim transcripts that reflect exactly what was said—this is transcription, not translation or creative rewriting.
Complete simple listening-based verification tasks such as flagging unclear or unusable audio, marking segments that can’t be confidently understood, and selecting predefined options for quality checks.
- Transcribe short Italian recordings to precise, rule-following verbatim text.
- Use provided conventions to mark inaudible or uncertain segments consistently.
- Perform evaluation/rating steps to verify audio usability and transcription quality.
- Work inside Labelbox (web-based) to submit transcripts and verification metadata.
Requirements
All requirements below are mandatory unless noted as preferred. You must be currently located in Italy to apply.
You will be asked to complete a short Italian transcription screening sample before starting.
- Currently located in Italy (Italy-based applicants only).
- Native Italian speaker with native-level written accuracy.
- Strong command of Italian spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and standard conventions.
- Comfortable applying strict transcription guidelines consistently (no improvising).
- Able to handle imperfect audio and use conventions to mark unclear sections appropriately.
- Prior experience with transcription, captioning/subtitling, or speech data labeling/QA (preferred).
- Can commit to ~1 hour/day, Monday–Friday, long-term (12+ months).
- Reliable internet, a computer suitable for web-based tools, quality headphones, and a quiet workspace.
- Willing to complete a short Italian transcription screening sample before starting.
- Required English level: Native or Bilingual (for following instructions and platform use).
Who should apply
Apply if you are a detail-oriented native Italian speaker who enjoys careful listening, following rules, and producing accurate written transcripts.
This role is well suited to people seeking steady, part-time remote work that fits a flexible daily schedule.
