About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We make it easier to find, apply for, and grow into durable freelance careers teaching AI by centralizing projects, tracking contributions, and helping contributors build a verified portfolio.

About AI training work

AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human work that helps modern AI systems learn from real-world examples. Contributors record, label, and evaluate data — from images and video to audio and text — and play a direct role in shaping how AI behaves.

This field is accessible and fast-growing: many projects are flexible or part-time, require no prior AI experience, and let you contribute from home using a smartphone or computer.

The role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Data-Video Generalist to capture first-person motion and video data used to train AI systems. You will record synchronized smartphone sensor data and head-mounted video while performing specified physical tasks, following strict technical protocols to ensure high-quality, deterministic dataset contributions.

What you'll do

  • Capture precise motion data using your smartphone while performing specified physical tasks.
  • Record head-mounted, hands-free video to provide first-person views that validate and enhance sensor recordings.
  • Follow detailed technical protocols and labeling instructions to meet data quality and determinism standards.
  • Deliver a minimum of 10 hours of approved video data per week and meet project milestones on schedule.
  • Communicate with the team to clarify guidelines and give feedback on data collection procedures.

Requirements

  • Access to a compatible smartphone: iPhone 12+, Google Pixel 6+, or Samsung Galaxy S21+.
  • Access to a head strap or equivalent to record both hands hands-free within 48 hours of your start date.
  • Ability to follow detailed technical protocols and strict quality/labeling standards.
  • Physical capability to perform repetitive movement tasks safely and accurately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for remote collaboration and documentation.
  • Eligibility to work in designated U.S. states (U.S. applicants only).

Schedule, pay, and employment type

This is a contractor, part-time role. Expected commitment is less than 20 hours per week with a required minimum of 10 approved hours of video data delivered weekly.

Pay is hourly at $13.00 USD per hour (PAY_PER_HOUR).

Data and tools

You will collect video and motion sensor data (DATA_TYPE: VIDEO) and contribute to both data collection and evaluation labeling tasks. Work follows strict protocols so datasets remain consistent and reproducible.

  • Label types: DATA_COLLECTION, EVALUATION_RATING.
  • High digital literacy and comfort with mobile device settings, video capture, and simple troubleshooting are helpful.

Who should apply and how it works

This entry-level opportunity fits people who are detail-oriented, comfortable with mobile tech, and able to perform repetitive physical actions safely. No prior AI experience is required; following protocols and delivering reliable data is what matters.

If selected, you'll onboard remotely, get protocol documentation, and begin capturing and submitting synchronized video and sensor files. Expect feedback cycles to ensure your submissions meet project quality standards.
