OpenTrain is hiring a remote contractor Bioinformatics Scientist with medicinal chemistry expertise. You will analyze complex biological, chemical, and clinical datasets, curate and validate drug-discovery data, and review AI-generated scientific content for accuracy and reliability.
This is a part-time contractor role requiring 20+ hours per week. Compensation is hourly, USD $90–$120/hr (top rate $120/hr). Work is document-focused and includes classification, named-entity and entity-classification tasks, plus evaluation/rating of model outputs.
What you'll do
Analyze medicinal chemistry datasets using bioinformatics and cheminformatics methods to extract and validate key information.
Curate, annotate, and validate drug-discovery and molecular analysis data to create high-quality training examples.
Review AI-generated scientific content for accuracy, relevance, and reliability; identify factual or methodological issues.
Provide clear written recommendations and feedback to guide model improvements and data curation standards.
Advise on experimental design, data interpretation, and annotation guidelines where subject-matter expertise is required.
Requirements

This role is labeled part-time contractor work (20+ hrs/week) with hourly pay in USD. The work is document-centric and uses classification, entity/NER classification, and evaluation/rating tasks.
Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in bioinformatics, computational biology, medicinal chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
Strong understanding of medicinal chemistry, structure–activity relationships, and drug design principles.
Experience working with large-scale omics or cheminformatics datasets and applying bioinformatics methods.
Familiarity with Python, R, RDKit, KNIME, databases, and related bioinformatics/cheminformatics tools.
Excellent scientific communication and clear written feedback skills; experience in multidisciplinary or remote projects.
Helpful background
Research experience at the intersection of biology, chemistry, and data science is a strong plus. Practical familiarity with cheminformatics pipelines, molecular descriptors, and assay data curation will help you be productive quickly.
Comfort working independently as a contractor and translating technical findings into concise guidance for annotators and model teams will accelerate impact.
