The Role
OpenTrain is recruiting a Mechanical Engineering AI Evaluation Expert to build enterprise-grade evaluation scenarios, reference outputs, and rubrics for AI systems that must handle complex design, safety, and manufacturing judgments.
This is a contract, part-time role: expect 20+ hours/week, paid hourly at USD $70–$80/hour. The project accepts worldwide contributors who are fluent in English.

What You'll Do
Convert your enterprise mechanical engineering experience into evaluation artifacts that teach and test AI systems. Tasks focus on realism, traceability, and standards-based engineering judgment.
Draft reference outputs and rubrics that reflect senior engineering judgment and executive-level technical narratives.
Create tasks that involve CAD modeling, thermal and fluid analysis, structural and stress analysis, and failure/reliability assessments.
Design scenarios that incorporate SolidWorks, ANSYS, CATIA, MATLAB/Simulink, Teamcenter, and Windchill where appropriate.
Write standards-based tasks using FEA, CFD, DFM, DFA, Six Sigma, DFSS, and GD&T.
Evaluate and rate AI-generated technical responses and produce clear, actionable feedback.
Requirements
The role requires deep, hands-on mechanical engineering experience in enterprise settings and proven ability to own designs, manufacturing, or certification programs at scale.
Senior mechanical engineering experience in industrial, automotive, aerospace, or manufacturing environments.
Direct ownership of product designs, manufacturing processes, or certification programs at enterprise scale.
Fluency with enterprise engineering tools and methods, including simulation and PLM workflows (SolidWorks, ANSYS, CATIA, MATLAB/Simulink, Teamcenter, Windchill).
Working knowledge of safety standards and regulatory certification such as ISO, FAA, or FDA.
Practical knowledge of FEA, CFD, DFM, DFA, Six Sigma, DFSS, and GD&T.
Experience writing rubrics, technical documentation, or engineering training materials.
