About AI Training Work
AI training is the human side of building modern artificial intelligence. Experts create tasks, evaluate model behavior, and provide reliable examples that help AI systems learn to reason, use tools, and produce better results.
This role focuses on software engineering evaluation rather than traditional data labeling. Your technical judgment will help measure whether AI agents can work effectively with Model Context Protocol tools and complete realistic engineering tasks.
Contribute to cutting-edge AI systems using your existing software engineering knowledge.
Work remotely with flexible hours as part of a fast-growing technical field.
No previous AI training experience is required.
The Role
OpenTrain is recruiting an MCP Software Engineering AI Training Expert to create reinforcement learning environments that test AI models' ability to solve real-world software engineering problems with Model Context Protocol tools. You will apply deep programming and systems expertise to design challenging, reproducible tasks and shape how next-generation AI systems learn and reason.
This is a part-time contractor position for contributors who can submit completed work that meets project specifications on a recurring basis. The role is listed as worldwide, with English required.
Time requirement: 20+ hours per week in the structured listing; the role description references roughly 15 hours per week
What You'll Do
You will design and improve environments that let AI agents discover and reason over real MCP servers. The work combines software development, evaluation design, debugging, and performance engineering.
Design reproducible reinforcement learning environments that assess MCP tool use and software engineering ability.
Fix bugs, implement features, refactor code, and optimize performance in agent-facing tasks.
Build deterministic verification systems and golden reference solutions that accurately measure model performance.
Create software engineering tasks involving real MCP servers and tool-based problem solving.
Submit completed tasks that meet project specifications on a recurring basis.
Work on a flexible schedule, including weekends if desired.
Required Skills and Experience
Applicants should bring strong practical software engineering experience and the ability to produce maintainable, reliable solutions. No prior AI training background is necessary, but experience with MCP tools and reinforcement learning environment design is included among the project requirements.
Proficiency in at least one of C++, Python, Java, GoLang, TypeScript, or Rust.
Deep understanding of algorithms, data structures, and performance tuning.
Demonstrated ability to debug complex software and refactor codebases.
Experience building reproducible environments with deterministic verification and golden reference solutions.
Experience working with MCP tools and designing reinforcement learning environments for software engineering tasks.
Proven experience with feature development and maintainable code.
Ability to optimize software for performance and scalability.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with close attention to detail.
A track record of effective collaboration in cross-functional teams, ideally in remote settings.
Helpful Background
The following experience can help you succeed in this role, although modern AI or machine learning experience is not required.
Experience working on large-scale, distributed codebases.
Familiarity with modern AI or machine learning systems.
Participation in rigorous code reviews.
Experience contributing to software engineering best practices.
