About AI Training Work

Large language models learn from examples created and reviewed by people. In this role, your mathematical questions, solutions, explanations, and evaluations will help improve how AI systems reason, communicate, and handle complex analytical tasks.

  • Work directly with language-model training data
  • Use mathematical expertise in a growing technology field
  • Contribute remotely with a computer, suitable software, and internet access

The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Mathematical Reasoning Analyst to create, solve, research, and explain analytical and mathematical problems for large language model training. The work combines quantitative reasoning, clear written English, claim validation, and structured judgment.

This is an entry-level contractor role for someone who can work systematically across different problem types while producing precise, logically ordered explanations.

  • Subject area: mathematical reasoning for LLM training
  • Data formats include question answering, evaluation and rating, and prompt-response writing
  • Language requirement: English
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours per week

What You'll Do

You will design examples that test whether language models can reason accurately and explain their conclusions clearly. You will also research written material, organize information, and assess whether claims are adequately supported.

  • Create analytical questions and scenarios that reveal weaknesses in model reasoning
  • Solve problems involving sales distributions, trends, variability, logical constraints, and multi-step puzzles
  • Provide accurate answers with clear, logically ordered explanations
  • Read and summarize complex material
  • Divide content into logical sections
  • Research information online and validate claims in written content
  • Evaluate and rate model responses where needed

Requirements

Strong English reading and writing comprehension is required. You should be comfortable explaining mathematical concepts in precise, accessible language and applying sound judgment when researching and validating information.

A reliable desktop or laptop, stable internet access, and suitable software for mathematical work and online collaboration are also required.

  • Strong algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus skills at the high school or college level
  • Systematic and creative problem-solving ability
  • Clear written English explanations
  • Sound online research and claim-validation judgment
  • Ability to manage deadlines and work efficiently across different problem types
  • Reliable computer, internet connection, and collaboration tools

Helpful Background

A bachelor's degree in mathematics, engineering, physics, or a related field is useful, but demonstrated mathematical ability may be considered instead of a formal degree. Experience tutoring or teaching mathematics can also support your application.

  • Experience with mathematics tutoring or teaching
  • Familiarity with standardized test formats
  • Knowledge of LaTeX
  • Experience using Google Colab or other mathematical tools
