About AI training work
AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building intelligent systems: people create, rate, and refine examples that models learn from. This role focuses on producing and reviewing high-quality mathematical responses used to train and evaluate generative math models.
Many projects are 100% remote and flexible; contributors can often set hours and workload while directly influencing how state-of-the-art models handle complex math.
The role
OpenTrain is recruiting a Math Expert (PhD) to develop, review, and improve model answers for complex mathematics prompts across undergraduate and graduate curricula. You will create precise solutions, interpret proofs and concepts, and help define response standards used in training and evaluation.
This is a part-time contract role (contractor) requiring 20+ hours per week. Work is remote and available worldwide in English. Tasks focus on text-based deliverables and include both text generation and evaluation/rating.
Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
Time requirement: 20+ hours/week
Pay: USD $80–$90 per hour
Data type: Text; label types: TEXT_GENERATION and EVALUATION_RATING
Language: English (required)
Experience level: Entry level (as classified on OpenTrain)
What you'll do
Write comprehensive, accurate solutions to advanced mathematics prompts (undergraduate and graduate level).
Create and refine golden responses to be used as model training examples and standards.
Explain proofs, derivations, and mathematical concepts in clear, structured steps suitable for model training.
Review and rate model outputs against quality guidelines and provide detailed feedback.
Contribute to and improve project guidelines, rubric definitions, and content workflows.
Requirements
You must meet all listed requirements below; we will use these qualifications to assess fit for expert review work.
PhD in Mathematics or a closely related discipline (required).
Strong graduate-level background in pure and/or applied mathematics.
Proven ability to write precise, comprehensive solutions and explain proofs clearly.
Experience authoring or reviewing mathematics materials such as textbooks, exams, problem sets, or journal articles.
Excellent written communication, attention to detail, and a collaborative, iterative working style.
Helpful background
The following experience is not required but will make your application more competitive and help you succeed quickly on project tasks.
Experience with expert review workflows, rubrics, or grading of advanced mathematics.
Prior work producing model answers, instructor solutions, or educational content.
Comfort providing actionable, constructive feedback to improve clarity and correctness.
How it works and how to apply
Contributors work remotely in a distributed environment, delivering text-based solutions and evaluations according to project guidelines and deadlines. Collaboration is iterative: you will often refine answers based on reviewer feedback and help evolve the standards used across tasks.
To apply, create a free OpenTrain account, complete your profile, and submit your application. Applications should highlight your PhD, relevant publications or instructional materials, and examples of authored solutions or problem sets when available.
OpenTrain seeks a Mathematics Expert (PhD) to write and review advanced mathematics prompts, model answers, and evaluations; part-time remote contract (~20 hrs/week) for 1–3 months at $80–$90/hr. Strong math background and clear written explanations required.
Join OpenTrain AI to evaluate and improve AI-generated mathematical answers — $70/hr, 20+ hours/week, remote (selected countries). Ideal for MS/PhD-level mathematicians who can spot errors, write clear model solutions, and rate reasoning quality.
Evaluate and rate AI-generated mathematical solutions, author exemplar step-by-step answers, and catch subtle conceptual or computational errors; $80/hr, contractor part-time role requiring a BS/MS/PhD in mathematics from a top-100 university and 17–20 hrs/week minimum.
