About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help legal and other specialists find flexible, remote contract work that turns domain expertise into durable AI-training experience and a single, verifiable portfolio.

OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role; you will contract directly with OpenTrain AI to perform the legal annotation and evaluation work described below.

About AI Training Work

AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building modern models. For legal AI, experienced attorneys teach models how to read contracts, spot risk, and draft or redline language with professional judgment. This project contributes to systems that produce more accurate, defensible legal outputs.

  • Work is 100% remote and typically flexible; many contributors combine it with other work or study.
  • This role focuses on text-based tasks: simulated negotiations, redlines, and evaluation ratings (RLHF/EVALUATION_RATING).

The Role

You will work as a contractor M&A attorney to design and execute exercises that train and evaluate contract-review models. Tasks include redlining, simulated negotiations, and reviewing AI-generated contract responses to provide expert feedback and objective grading.

This is a part-time contractor role requiring at least 20 hours/week. Compensation is hourly at $80–$105 USD per hour, paid per OpenTrain AI contracting terms.

What You'll Do

  • Perform simulated contract negotiations and redlining exercises on M&A and tech-focused documents.
  • Review AI responses to contract scenarios and provide detailed, actionable feedback to improve accuracy and judgment.
  • Build evaluation frameworks, rubrics, and grading criteria for contract-task performance.
  • Collaborate with the team on data selection, annotation guidelines, and best practices for automated contract review.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the M&A department of a corporate law firm.
  • Familiarity with APAs, SPAs, drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and redlining.
  • Ability to evaluate AI responses with rigorous legal judgment and translate analysis into structured feedback and grading criteria.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and careful attention to detail.

Who Should Apply

Experienced M&A lawyers who enjoy meta-level legal work—teaching, evaluating, and improving how AI handles contract tasks—will find this project rewarding. Ideal applicants can turn practical drafting and negotiation experience into clear, objective feedback for models.

Because the work is evaluative and instructional, strong interpersonal communication and a willingness to iterate on guidelines are essential.

How the Contract Works

This is a contractor, part-time engagement through OpenTrain AI. Expect to work 20+ hours/week on text-based annotation and RLHF evaluation tasks. You will be paid hourly (USD) at the listed rate range and will follow OpenTrain-provided annotation tools and guidelines.

To apply, create or update your OpenTrain profile, confirm your legal credentials, and submit your application. Successful candidates will be onboarded with project materials, sample tasks, and evaluation rubrics.

  • Data type: text; label types: RLHF and evaluation rating.
  • Language: English. Worldwide applicants accepted, but active U.S. bar admission is required.
