About this role. OpenTrain is recruiting a Life Sciences Scientific Reasoning Expert to create advanced scientific-reasoning tasks for AI evaluation. You will develop challenging biology problems grounded in realistic research scenarios, using experimental results, biological data, figures, sequences, structures, and literature-style evidence. The work is non-coding and emphasizes synthesis, interpretation, defensible reasoning, and distinguishing advanced reasoning from factual recall.

Responsibilities include designing graduate-level life sciences problems, writing clear questions and rigorous reference answers, interpreting experiments and biological evidence, validating claims and calculations, identifying ambiguity and alternative interpretations, keeping tasks self-contained and clearly documented, and incorporating reviewer feedback while maintaining quality and throughput.

Required qualifications include a Ph.D., postdoctoral experience, or equivalent advanced research experience in the life sciences; strong expertise in at least one biological discipline; demonstrated ability to interpret scientific experiments, data, and research findings; and strong scientific writing skills with close attention to precision. Relevant backgrounds include molecular biology, genetics and genomics, cell biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, microbiology, immunology, ecology, structural biology, biophysics, and related disciplines. Helpful experience includes designing graduate-level problems or assessments, reviewing scientific research, translating complex concepts into precise questions, evaluating AI-generated scientific responses, or contributing to AI and machine learning evaluation datasets.
