About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. It helps contributors discover specialized projects, create a credible professional profile, and grow a lasting portfolio of work shaping artificial intelligence.

As an OpenTrain AI contractor, you can build experience in a fast-growing field where scientific expertise is used to improve how advanced AI systems understand and evaluate real-world work.

  • Free account creation and profile building
  • Opportunities across AI training and data-labeling work
  • A portfolio designed to help showcase specialized expertise

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. People prepare examples, assess model outputs, and create evaluation standards that help AI systems become more accurate, useful, and reliable.

In this role, your scientific judgment will help test whether AI can reason through authentic life sciences challenges rather than relying only on simplified textbook exercises. AI training work is often flexible and remote, making it possible to contribute alongside other professional or personal commitments.

  • Work with realistic datasets and multi-step scientific problems
  • Evaluate reasoning, interpretation, and methodological quality
  • Contribute to the development of cutting-edge AI systems

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Life Sciences AI Evaluation Task Designer to create challenging benchmark tasks that evaluate how AI systems reason about real scientific work. You will use authentic research artifacts and technical challenges to represent advanced life sciences practice, including experimental design critique, protocol analysis, primary data interpretation, and methodological judgment.

The role is listed as entry level and requires at least two years of hands-on research or laboratory experience. It is a part-time contractor opportunity requiring 20 or more hours per week, with hourly pay ranging from $30 to $50 USD.

  • Role type: Part-time contractor
  • Time requirement: 20 or more hours per week
  • Pay: $30 to $50 USD per hour
  • Language: English
  • Availability: Countries listed in the application

What You'll Do

You will design complex research evaluation tasks in biology, biomedical science, biochemistry, or a closely related life sciences discipline. Your work will involve gathering and synthesizing source materials, defining sound methodological approaches, and documenting the appropriate biological interpretation.

Tasks should capture the ambiguity, nuance, and depth of real-world scientific work. You will also collaborate asynchronously with coordinators to refine deliverables and maintain objective, high-quality task design.

  • Source and synthesize raw experimental data, laboratory protocols, technical literature, and supplementary documents
  • Create multi-step benchmark tasks based on realistic scientific workflows
  • Define appropriate methodological approaches and biological interpretations
  • Build rubrics assessing methodological rigor, data interpretation, and source fidelity
  • Design scenarios that reflect ambiguity and nuance in scientific practice
  • Refine deliverables asynchronously with coordinators

Requirements

You should have academic grounding in biology, biomedical sciences, biochemistry, or a closely related life sciences field, along with practical experience working with scientific protocols and primary data. Strong written English is required because the work includes scientific documentation, source synthesis, and detailed evaluation criteria.

The role also requires careful attention to rubric fidelity and the ability to make objective judgments about scientific reasoning and methodology.

  • Bachelor's or master's degree, or equivalent academic grounding, in biology, biomedical sciences, biochemistry, or a related field
  • At least two years of hands-on research or laboratory experience involving primary data analysis
  • Ability to analyze scientific protocols and critique experimental designs
  • Ability to determine sound methodological approaches
  • Skill in synthesizing raw data, technical literature, protocols, and supplementary research materials
  • Experience drafting or reviewing scientific documentation
  • Comfort handling CSVs, spreadsheets, PDFs, and technical documents
  • Strong scientific reasoning, methodological evaluation, and written English skills
  • Ability to create objective rubrics covering scientific reasoning, biological interpretation, methodological rigor, and source fidelity

Why This Work Matters

Modern AI systems learn from examples prepared and reviewed by people. By translating authentic life sciences practice into carefully designed evaluation tasks, you can help reveal where AI reasoning is strong, where it is unreliable, and how it should improve.

OpenTrain gives contributors a place to develop a durable AI training portfolio, showcase credible specialized experience, and find work aligned with their scientific skills.

  • Apply life sciences expertise to advanced AI evaluation
  • Work with authentic research artifacts instead of simplified exercises
  • Build documented experience in AI training and scientific evaluation
  • Contribute to a rapidly growing technology field
