About Legal AI Training

AI training is the human side of building modern artificial intelligence. Legal professionals contribute by creating realistic expert tasks, writing reference answers, and evaluating whether model responses are accurate, clear, useful, and appropriately reasoned.

This work combines substantive legal expertise with careful quality review. Your analysis can help shape AI systems so they apply legal principles more reliably and turn complex issues into practical recommendations.

  • Work on cutting-edge AI evaluation and response improvement
  • Apply professional legal judgment to realistic tasks
  • Help identify risks, errors, and ambiguous evaluation criteria

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Legal AI Task and Response Reviewer for contract work focused on commercial legal document review and legal response evaluation. You will create and review expert-level tasks that reflect practical legal work, produce authoritative reference solutions, and assess AI-generated outputs.

The role requires advanced legal judgment, strong analytical reasoning, and ownership of day-to-day quality. You will evaluate how accurately responses apply laws and legal principles while ensuring that recommendations are clear, useful, and appropriately reasoned.

  • Create high-difficulty legal tasks grounded in practical legal work
  • Produce authoritative legal analysis and reference solutions
  • Review and calibrate contributor outputs
  • Evaluate responses for accuracy, risk, clarity, and usefulness

What You'll Do

You will analyze complex legal matters and improve outputs so they provide clear, practical recommendations. You will also identify genuine edge cases and escalate ambiguities in rubrics or evaluation criteria when additional review is needed.

  • Apply laws, regulations, and legal principles to challenging scenarios
  • Review legal responses for correct reasoning and practical value
  • Assess whether outputs are accurate, clear, and appropriately supported
  • Identify legal risks and problematic interpretations
  • Escalate genuine edge cases and unclear evaluation standards
  • Refine legal outputs to improve their usefulness and clarity
  • Take ownership of quality review and contributor calibration

Requirements

This role is intended for an experienced legal professional with approximately 5 to 15 years of legal practice, ideally at Senior Associate, Counsel, or an equivalent level in a law firm or corporate legal department. The structured experience level is listed as entry level, but the role description requires substantial professional legal experience and qualifications.

You must be able to interpret legal authorities and translate them into practical recommendations. Advanced commercial contract experience is expected, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and revising legal documents.

  • Approximately 5 to 15 years of legal practice experience
  • Juris Doctor, active bar admission, or equivalent regional legal qualification and professional license
  • Advanced experience with commercial contract drafting, review, negotiation, and revision
  • Experience reviewing legal agreements, policies, and related legal documents
  • Expert ability to interpret laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance
  • Strong legal research, analytical reasoning, professional judgment, and attention to detail
  • Ability to evaluate legal responses for accuracy, risk, clarity, and usefulness
  • Ability to produce authoritative legal analysis and handle edge cases or ambiguous criteria
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience is relevant

Helpful Background

Experience in AI evaluation, data annotation, content review, quality assurance, or another analytical role can help you transition into this work, but it is not required. The central qualification is your ability to apply advanced legal expertise consistently and explain your reasoning clearly.

  • AI evaluation experience
  • Data annotation or content review experience
  • Quality assurance experience
  • Other analytical or calibration-focused work
