OpenTrain AI is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect skilled contributors with cutting-edge projects where they teach AI by reviewing, correcting, and explaining model outputs.
When you work with OpenTrain AI you join a fast-growing industry that offers flexible, accessible ways to work in tech — including part-time, contractor roles that let you set your schedule and directly influence how state-of-the-art AI systems behave.
About AI training work
AI training (data labeling and human feedback) is the human side of building intelligent systems: people create, review, and evaluate examples that models learn from. Contributors do everything from annotating images and transcribing audio to debugging code and documenting fixes so models improve over time.
This role focuses on code-level work: your expertise will directly improve the quality of AI-generated Julia code and the guidance models use to produce better results.
The role
We are hiring a Julia Programming Language Subject Matter Expert (SME) based in India to join OpenTrain AI as a part-time contractor. You will review code produced by AI models, identify errors or inefficiencies, fix code where appropriate, and write clear explanations of each correction so models learn from human feedback.
This is independent work that requires strong debugging skills, disciplined task management, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts in English at C1 level.
Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
Pay: $27 USD per hour (pay-per-hour)
Expected weekly commitment: starting from 20+ hours/week (you will state an exact number during interview)
What you'll do
Your primary responsibility is improving AI-generated Julia code by applying professional engineering standards and clearly documenting each change. Work products are used to train and evaluate models, so clarity and consistency matter.
Review and debug Julia code produced by AI systems
Correct logic, performance, or style issues to meet industry best practices
Write precise, teachable explanations for each correction to improve model outputs
Evaluate example outputs and rate their correctness and quality
Deliver consistent, high-quality annotations and evaluations on schedule
Requirements
Candidates must meet all the qualifications below. OpenTrain AI will verify experience and may ask for examples of your real-world work with Julia.
Note: At the start of the interview you will take a coding/skill test and participate in a live interview. Dishonesty during the interview process will lead to a permanent ban from the OpenTrain AI platform.
7+ years of professional experience with the Julia programming language (be prepared to describe projects you built with Julia)
C1-level English proficiency with strong written communication and technical documentation skills
Proven debugging skills and familiarity with Julia coding conventions and performance patterns
Ability to work independently, manage tasks efficiently, and produce consistent, high-quality output
Interview and hiring process
All candidates must complete a coding/skill test and a live interview before being considered. During the interview you will be asked to provide specific factual answers; dishonesty will result in permanent removal from the platform.
You must be ready to provide the items listed below during the interview; the hiring team will include these answers in the AI interview summary.
Highest level of education (state your degree and institution)
Exact number of years of experience with Julia (provide specifics of what you built)
Exact hours per week you can commit if hired (an exact number, not a range; e.g., "22 hours per week")
Who should apply
Apply if you are located in India, have deep Julia experience, enjoy debugging and teaching via written explanations, and want flexible contractor work that impacts AI behavior.
This role is ideal for senior Julia engineers, technical leads, or experienced library authors who can clearly articulate coding decisions and document them for machine learning uses.
How to apply
If you meet the requirements, apply through OpenTrain AI and be prepared to complete the coding test and live interview. In your application, briefly summarize your most relevant Julia projects and confirm you are based in India.
During the interview you will specify your exact weekly availability (hours), highest education level, and years of Julia experience; these answers will be recorded in your interview summary.
Include succinct real-world examples of Julia projects you worked on
Confirm you can communicate at C1 English level
Be prepared for immediate scheduling of the coding test and live interview
