About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the centralized platform where people build careers in AI training and data labeling. We make it easy to find projects, consolidate proof of work, and grow a durable freelance portfolio in a fast-growing industry.

Working with OpenTrain means contributing directly to how state-of-the-art AI systems learn from human examples while enjoying flexible, fully remote work that fits around your life.

Why AI training work matters

AI training (data labeling / annotation / human feedback) is the human side of building intelligent systems: people create, review, and refine the examples models learn from. Frontend tools and interfaces are critical because they shape annotation quality, reviewer productivity, and how effectively models improve.

This role gives you the chance to influence tooling that directly impacts model behavior and data quality while working on practical engineering challenges at the intersection of UX, performance, and data workflows.

The role

You will design, build, and optimize frontend applications used to collect and evaluate real-world inputs for AI systems. The work centers on translating business requirements into intuitive interfaces, driving architectural decisions, mentoring teammates, and ensuring high code quality through reviews and performance troubleshooting.

This is a contract, part-time position expecting 20+ hours per week. The role is remote and open to contributors worldwide who communicate in English.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours/week
  • Languages: English
  • Location: Remote / Worldwide

What you will do

Deliver robust, maintainable frontend applications and improvements that scale with our annotation and evaluation workflows.

Lead implementation choices that improve reliability, accessibility, and developer productivity across the frontend codebase.

  • Build and optimize frontend applications using advanced JavaScript.
  • Translate business requirements into intuitive, usable interfaces.
  • Lead architectural decisions for frontend systems and scalable component design.
  • Perform code reviews, mentor developers, and improve team practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve performance bottlenecks and quality issues.
  • Apply modern frameworks and libraries (React, Vue, Angular) to create maintainable solutions.

Requirements

Candidates must bring strong hands-on JavaScript frontend experience and practical knowledge of modern frontend frameworks and remote collaboration.

We preserve all role requirements: you should be comfortable taking ownership of frontend architecture, writing clean code, and guiding others through reviews and mentorship.

  • Extensive experience building sophisticated web applications with JavaScript.
  • Hands-on experience with React, Vue, or Angular.
  • Proven code review judgment and clean-code practices.
  • Experience with web performance optimization and responsive design.
  • Comfort working in remote, distributed teams with clear communication.
  • Mentoring or technical leadership experience is required.

Compensation and project details

Pay is offered on an hourly basis. The role lists hourly pay parameters and a target rate; please review when applying and include your expected hourly rate.

This work focuses on code-related data types and labeling tasks, including coding evaluation and rating workflows.

  • Pay type: PAY_PER_HOUR (USD)
  • Pay range: $30–$90 per hour (listed rate: $90/hr)
  • Data type: Computer code / programming
  • Label types: Coding evaluation and rating

How to apply and who should apply

Apply if you want to build frontend systems that directly support AI training, enjoy mentoring engineers, and prefer flexible, remote contract work. Entry-level is listed, but the role requires strong practical frontend experience and leadership in architecture or mentoring.

When you apply, highlight relevant frontend projects, experience with React/Vue/Angular, examples of code reviews or architecture ownership, and your availability for 20+ hours/week.

  • Showcase code samples, links to repositories, or brief descriptions of frontend projects.
  • Describe mentoring or leadership experience and contributions to code quality.
  • Include your hourly rate expectation and weekly availability.
