About AI Training and Legal Model Evaluation

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Modern language models improve when experienced professionals review their responses, identify weaknesses, and provide structured feedback. In this project, your legal judgment will help assess how accurately AI systems respond to questions involving Japanese law.

  • Work remotely with flexible, part-time contractor scheduling
  • Contribute to the evaluation of cutting-edge legal AI systems
  • Build experience and a durable professional portfolio in AI training

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Japanese Legal AI Response Reviewer to evaluate AI-generated answers to real questions of Japanese law. The work focuses especially on commercial and contract matters and is intended for experienced in-house legal counsel practicing in Japan.

You will compare answers produced by two AI language-model platforms, assess each response using a standardized evaluation rubric, and write concise feedback explaining your judgment. The work requires confidentiality and participation under a non-disclosure agreement.

  • Role type: Part-time contractor
  • Location: Japan
  • Language: Japanese
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours per week
  • Pay: $140–$150 USD per hour

What You'll Do

Your evaluations will provide structured, expert review of AI-generated legal responses. Consistent scoring and clear explanations are essential for measuring response quality and identifying inaccurate reasoning, missing issues, or other weaknesses.

  • Run the same legal prompts through two AI language-model platforms
  • Compare the resulting answers side by side
  • Score each response against a standardized rubric
  • Write concise feedback explaining each evaluation
  • Apply consistent legal judgment to commercial and contract matters
  • Complete evaluation work accurately and meet deadlines
  • Handle project information under confidentiality obligations and an NDA

Requirements

This project requires substantial professional legal experience in Japan. You should be comfortable reviewing legal analysis, contracts, and written legal responses, then applying explicit quality standards consistently and independently.

  • At least five years of experience as in-house legal counsel practicing in Japan
  • Strong knowledge of Japanese law
  • Substantive experience with commercial and contract matters
  • Precise written communication in Japanese
  • Ability to compare AI-generated legal answers against a standardized rubric
  • Independent judgment, careful attention to detail, and deadline discipline

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is well suited to an experienced in-house counsel professional who wants to apply practical Japanese legal expertise to emerging AI systems. Experience reviewing legal analysis, contracts, or other written legal responses can help you recognize inaccurate reasoning, overlooked issues, and gaps in model-generated answers.

  • In-house counsel with five or more years of practice in Japan
  • Legal professionals experienced in commercial or contract matters
  • Careful reviewers who can explain decisions clearly and concisely
  • Professionals comfortable working independently under a structured rubric

Why Your Expertise Matters

Legal AI systems need grounded evaluation from professionals who understand the relevant jurisdiction and practice area. By contributing careful, rubric-based judgments, you will support the development and measurement of AI systems in a specialized Japanese legal context while expanding your AI training portfolio.
