Why Work In AI Training
AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building modern AI. Contributors prepare and refine examples—dialogue, summaries, and evaluations—that models learn from.
- 100% remote and flexible: work from anywhere with an internet connection.
- Great part-time work: fit tasks around other commitments and choose your hours.
- Cutting-edge impact: directly improve how AI understands Japanese language and culture.
The Role
We are hiring an experienced Japanese Creative Writer on a remote contract, part-time basis to generate and improve dialogue used to train LLM chatbots. This role focuses on writing high-quality, culturally authentic responses and editing AI outputs so models learn natural, accurate Japanese.
Pay: USD $20 per hour. Schedule: minimum 10 hours/week with a preferred commitment of 20+ hours/week. Worldwide candidates welcome; this is a contractor position.
- Employment type: Contractor, Part-time.
- Work is performed remotely and can be done from any country.
- Labeling work will include prompt-response writing, text generation, and summarization tasks.
What You'll Do
Daily tasks center on writing and refining Japanese text so chatbots converse naturally and appropriately across contexts and dialects.
- Generate authentic, culturally relevant responses to given prompts in Japanese.
- Edit and improve AI-generated texts for accuracy, tone, and fluency.
- Incorporate regional dialects and nuanced phrasing to make interactions realistic.
- Follow annotation guidelines and feedback from project managers to meet quality standards.
- Work on tasks labeled as PROMPT_RESPONSE_WRITING_SFT, TEXT_GENERATION, and TEXT_SUMMARIZATION.
Requirements
Candidates must be strong written Japanese communicators with a record of creative or content writing; the listing preserves every requirement from the project brief.
- Preferred: 5+ years of creative writing or content creation experience in Japanese (preferred but not strictly required).
- Highly preferred: prior WRITING tasks on data-labeling platforms such as OpenTrain, OpenTrain, OpenTrain.tech, Appen, etc.; note: writing responses (not only rating) is what we value most.
- Portfolio of published Japanese works preferred (online or print); be prepared to share links or descriptions.
- Basic English comprehension to follow instructions and communicate with the team.
- Editing and proofreading skills with strong Japanese grammar and style control.
- Experience using AI chatbot tools like ChatGPT is an advantage but not required.
- Applicants will be asked to state their highest level of education and to provide years/months of relevant experience.
Application & Interview Test
Applications should include a brief resume, writing portfolio link or samples, and your typical weekly availability (minimum hours you can commit). During screening you will be asked how many years/months of writing experience you have on data-labeling platforms and what your highest level of education is.
- As part of the interview you will complete a short written test in Japanese; responses must be provided in Japanese and will strongly influence your qualification score.
- Test Questions (respond in Japanese):
- QUESTION1 : Describe a Character
- Japanese: 創造的な言葉を使用して、ユニークで生き生きとしたキャラクターを簡潔に説明してください。説明には少なくとも二つの特徴が含まれる必要があります。
- QUESTION 2: Draft a Professional Email
- Japanese: 作成した「四半期財務報告書」に対するフィードバックを求める短いメールを上司に送ってください。データ分析とプレゼンテーションスタイルに焦点を当ててください。
