The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking an experienced Japanese Creative Writer for a remote contract role focused on large language model and chatbot training. You will write authentic responses to prompts and improve AI-generated text so it reflects natural Japanese, varied styles, strong grammar, and relevant cultural context.

The project is listed as part-time work requiring less than 20 hours per week. The role description specifies a minimum commitment of 10 hours weekly, with a preferred commitment of 20 or more hours per week. Compensation is $20 USD per hour.

What You’ll Do

You will create and refine written dialogue used to train AI systems in natural language understanding. Assignments may require shifting between creative, professional, persuasive, and other writing styles while maintaining precision and reader engagement.

• Generate authentic, culturally relevant Japanese responses from given prompts
• Write dialogue and other text examples for conversational AI training
• Edit and proofread AI-generated content for accuracy, clarity, and quality
• Apply knowledge of Japanese dialects and regional nuances
• Use strong grammar and varied writing styles across assignments
• Complete text generation and text summarization tasks

Requirements and Preferred Qualifications

This role is designed for a writer with a strong command of written Japanese and substantial creative writing or content creation experience. More than five years of Japanese writing experience is preferred but not required. A basic understanding of English is needed to follow instructions and communicate with the team.

Previous experience writing responses to prompts for AI or data-labeling projects is highly preferred. Experience specifically creating written responses is more relevant than experience limited to rating or evaluating existing responses.

• Strong written Japanese, including excellent grammar and multiple writing styles
• At least 10 hours of weekly availability; 20 or more hours is preferred
• More than five years of Japanese creative writing or content creation experience preferred
• Meticulous editing and proofreading ability
• Basic English for instructions and team communication
• Published Japanese writing portfolio preferred, online or in print
• Experience with AI chatbot tools is helpful but not essential
• Applicants should be prepared to discuss their highest level of education

Japanese Writing Assessment

As part of the interview, applicants will complete a short written assessment. Questions will be provided in Japanese, and responses must also be written in Japanese. The assessment is intended to evaluate precise comprehension, creativity, tone, grammar, and practical communication skills.

• Describe a character in concise, creative language while including at least two characteristics.
• Write a short professional email to a manager requesting feedback on a completed quarterly financial report, focusing on data analysis and presentation style.
• Write a concise persuasive email encouraging an introverted friend to volunteer as a guest speaker at a community event, including two benefits and addressing one possible concern.
