About AI training work
AI training (data labeling/annotation) is the human side of how modern AI learns. Contributors annotate, evaluate, and refine model outputs — work that is remote-friendly, flexible, and central to improving AI behavior. This role focuses on evaluating generative responses and producing training content that improves model accuracy, clarity, and cultural fit.
The role
You will review AI-generated Japanese responses, compare alternatives, and produce clear explanations and model solutions. The work emphasizes correctness, logical reasoning, prompt adherence, and Japanese localization — keeping terminology, tone, and cultural nuance accurate for a Japan locale.
Contractor role, part-time: 20+ hours per week.
Pay: USD 40 per hour.
Work type: text evaluation (EVALUATION_RATING, TEXT_GENERATION, RLHF).
Location requirement: must be based in Japan.
What you'll do
Review AI-generated answers and assess correctness, clarity, and logical reasoning.
Compare multiple model responses and rank them by quality and prompt adherence.
Fact-check information and identify methodological or conceptual errors.
Write high-quality explanations and model solutions that show correct methods.
Create prompts and sample responses to support model improvement and integrity checks.
Apply Japanese localization judgment to preserve terminology, tone, and cultural nuance.
Requirements
Native or near-native Japanese proficiency for Japan locale conventions.
C1-level English reading and writing for guideline and prompt interpretation.
Experience with Japanese translation or localization and CAT tools.
Familiarity with MQM or LQA frameworks, including severity and root-cause analysis.
Experience with translation memory, termbases, and QA workflows.
Strong editorial judgment, attention to detail, and fact-checking skills.
Comfort working as an hourly contractor with dependable throughput and responsiveness across time zones.
Helpful background and experience
Bachelor's degree or higher in translation, linguistics, localization, communications, or related field.
Prior experience with AI data training, annotation, or evaluation.
Familiarity with automated checks, translation memory systems, and terminology management.
