About AI training work
AI training (data labeling / annotation) is the human work behind modern AI systems: people prepare and review examples that models learn from. This field is growing fast and offers flexible, remote, accessible work.
This role puts you at the cutting edge of speech data quality—your evaluations directly shape how speech recognition and speaker-diarization systems perform in real-world, conversational settings.
The role
We are recruiting an Italian Audio Transcription Evaluator to support creation of an evaluation-grade dataset of transcribed, multi-channel audio recordings. You will review AI-generated transcriptions and diarization outputs for exceptionally high accuracy and strict low error-rate (WER) targets.
This is a part-time, contractor role requiring 20+ hours per week. The position is remote and open worldwide; candidates must have native or fluent proficiency in Italian.
Work type: Part-time contractor (remote, worldwide)
Time commitment: 20+ hours/week
Language: Fluent or native proficiency in Italian
Experience level: Entry level (skill and attention to detail required)
What you'll do
You will evaluate AI outputs against strict acceptance criteria and mark whether they meet evaluation-grade standards. Tasks emphasize verbatim, unnormalized conversational transcription and precise diarization/timestamp alignment.
Review and evaluate AI-generated transcriptions and diarization outputs for high accuracy and low WER targets
Validate transcripts that capture spontaneous, unnormalized speech—overlaps, interruptions, false starts, and disfluencies must be preserved
Assess turn-level and word-level timestamps and speaker identification, including complex overlapping dialogue
Read and validate underlying JSON-formatted outputs to ensure correct metadata tagging, diarization alignment, and timestamp logic
Identify transcription, diarization, segmentation, and alignment errors and judge whether AI output meets acceptance thresholds
Requirements
You must be able to detect subtle audio issues, follow strict verbatim transcription rules, and work carefully with timestamped JSON outputs. The role focuses on careful listening and accurate evaluation rather than prior industry tenure.
Fluent or native proficiency in Italian
Exceptional ear for audio fidelity; detect subtle background noises, channel bleed, or clipping
Meticulous attention to detail for verifying word-level timestamps and diarization accuracy
Ability to evaluate ASR outputs and identify recognition, segmentation, and speaker attribution errors
Experience reading and validating JSON-formatted outputs for metadata tagging, diarization alignment, and timestamp logic
Helpful background
Candidates with related experience will find the work familiar, though the role is entry level if you meet the core requirements above.
Linguists or phonetics experts with deep understanding of natural, unnormalized speech patterns
Language teachers with native-level mastery of Italian
Professional transcriptionists or speech data QA specialists experienced with ASR outputs and turn-/word-level timestamps
