About OpenTrain

OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role and the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. OpenTrain helps contributors discover meaningful projects, build a professional AI-training profile, and grow their experience in a fast-moving industry.

About AI Training and Visual Evaluation

AI training is the human work behind modern artificial intelligence. Contributors prepare examples, assess model responses, and document where systems succeed or fail so AI can learn from clearer, more reliable feedback.

In this role, you will focus on visual model evaluation: testing whether an AI system can count objects accurately when images contain distractions, ambiguity, or misleading information.

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking an Image Counting Model Evaluation Specialist to create and assess visual tasks for advanced AI models. You will work with images that may cause models to count incorrectly, test model responses with counting prompts, identify the visual details behind errors, and label each task consistently.

This entry-level contractor opportunity is remote and available worldwide. The expected commitment is 20 or more hours per week, with pay of $35 per hour.

  • Employment type: Part-time contractor
  • Location: Remote, worldwide
  • Expected time: 20+ hours per week
  • Pay: $35 USD per hour
  • Primary language: English

What You'll Do

You will evaluate difficult real-world counting cases and create well-documented tasks that reveal how AI models interpret visual evidence. Your work will help distinguish genuine object recognition from guessing, duplicate counting, missed objects, or reliance on text within an image.

  • Find original, public-domain, or AI-generated images that could cause an AI model to miscount objects.
  • Identify misleading text, similar-looking objects, duplicate-looking objects, and other details that may confuse a model.
  • Test images with prompts asking models to return an integer count.
  • Write additional prompts that provide useful context for the evaluation.
  • Assess whether a model's count is supported by visual evidence.
  • Document what went wrong and label each completed task consistently.

Requirements

You should be able to communicate clearly in written English and maintain careful, consistent judgment across many similar visual evaluation tasks. Close attention to small image details is essential, as is the ability to explain why a particular image may confuse an AI model.

  • Strong written English for precise prompts and accurate documentation.
  • Ability to identify misleading text, duplicates, similar-looking objects, and ambiguous measurement units in images.
  • Judgment when deciding whether an AI model's object count is supported by visual evidence.
  • Consistency and reliability across repeated visual data-collection and evaluation tasks.
  • Entry-level applicants are welcome.

Helpful Background

Experience is not required for this entry-level role, but detail-focused visual work can be useful preparation. Background in the following areas may help you recognize image issues and document findings clearly.

  • Photography
  • Image editing
  • Data labeling or annotation
  • Other work involving visual review and careful documentation

Build Your AI Training Career

AI training and data labeling are rapidly expanding ways to work in technology. Depending on the project, contributors may annotate visual data, evaluate model outputs, write prompts, or provide other forms of human feedback that shape how AI systems behave.

OpenTrain provides a place to build a lasting record of your AI-training experience, discover projects that match your abilities, and develop a career in this growing field. Creating an OpenTrain account is free.

  • Work remotely from anywhere with an internet connection.
  • Develop practical experience evaluating cutting-edge AI systems.
  • Build a profile that reflects your project history and skills.
  • Choose flexible work that can fit around other commitments.
