OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role. Our projects let language experts apply editorial judgment and shape how advanced models use language.
About AI training work
AI training (data labeling, annotation, or human feedback) is how modern models learn from human examples: reviewing outputs, writing reference answers, rating responses, and flagging errors or unsafe content.
This work is often fully remote, flexible, and accessible to language professionals. It rewards careful writing, editing experience, and cultural knowledge because contributors directly influence model behavior.
The role
We are seeking an Icelandic Language Review Specialist to evaluate AI-generated Icelandic content and produce gold-standard reference text. You will assess accuracy, fluency, grammar, tone, register, and cultural fit, then write clear feedback and corrected Icelandic outputs.
This contractor, part-time role requires work from within Iceland and is ideal for someone who can justify language choices and preserve meaning while improving clarity and safety.
What you'll do
Tasks focus on evaluating and improving Icelandic text from models across domains like general knowledge, customer support, education, and conversational writing.
Evaluate and rank AI responses for correctness, fluency, tone match, and overall quality.
Rewrite or author Icelandic reference content that models best-practice writing without changing meaning.
Fact-check claims and flag misleading, unsafe, or culturally mismatched content.
Identify mistranslations, meaning shifts, ambiguity, logical issues, hallucinated claims, and policy-risk language.
Maintain consistent terminology, register, and style across prompts, answers, and multi-turn exchanges.
Provide clear written feedback explaining issues and how to improve outputs.
Requirements
You must meet every required qualification listed below. We will ask for examples of prior language work during the application process.
Native or near-native Icelandic reading and writing ability.
Strong professional English (minimum C1).
Background in linguistics, translation, journalism, communications, writing, editing, or a related field.
Deep understanding of Icelandic grammar, style, punctuation, and register.
Experience reviewing translations or AI outputs for meaning preservation and cultural fit.
Ability to rewrite Icelandic text clearly without changing meaning and to justify language choices.
Familiarity with translation QA, editorial QA, or rubric-based evaluation is strongly preferred.
Who should apply
This role is a fit for language professionals, translators, editors, and linguists who want flexible, impactful freelance work shaping AI language quality.
Entry-level applicants with relevant education or demonstrable editing/translation experience are welcome if they meet the language and English requirements.
Compensation, schedule, and next steps
Compensation: $55 USD per hour (PAY_PER_HOUR).
Time requirement: 20+ hours per week. Employment type: Contractor, Part-time. Location: work must be performed from within Iceland.
Labeling work includes QUESTION_ANSWERING, TEXT_GENERATION, EVALUATION_RATING, and RLHF tasks on text data.
