About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the leading platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help freelancers discover projects, build a unified AI training portfolio, and grow long-term skills working directly on data that shapes modern AI systems.

OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role — we manage onboarding, equipment shipping, and project coordination so you can focus on producing high-quality training data.

  • Centralized place to apply, build a portfolio, and grow an AI-training career
  • OpenTrain AI handles hiring, contracting, and project administration for this role

Why AI training matters

AI training (also called data collection or labeling) is the human side of building intelligent systems: people create and verify the real-world examples that teach models how to act. Contributors often work remotely, on flexible schedules, and help shape how emerging technologies behave.

This project supports personal robotics: your recordings of everyday household tasks will be used to teach robotic grippers and assistive devices how to operate reliably in real homes.

  • Work remotely and build a portfolio of concrete AI-training experience
  • Contribute recordings that directly inform how personal robots perform household tasks

The role

You will record high-quality video demonstrations of everyday household tasks while operating a UMI gripper and related wearable/recording equipment. Deliverables must follow detailed project specifications, and you'll update recordings based on reviewer feedback until they meet approval.

This is a contractor, part-time role for U.S.-based contributors who can commit 20+ hours per week. Work begins quickly after onboarding and equipment shipment.

  • Create and submit specification-compliant video demonstrations of household tasks
  • Set up and operate the UMI gripper, hand-tracking gear, and recording devices
  • Iterate on recordings based on written and verbal feedback from reviewers

What you'll do day-to-day

Follow step-by-step instructions to stage household tasks, operate the gripper and recording gear, and capture repeatable demonstrations that meet the project's quality standards. Maintain a steady weekly workflow to meet data quotas.

Communicate clearly with the project team to resolve setup questions, receive feedback, and confirm approvals.

  • Stage tasks and capture video that matches specification requirements
  • Operate wearable recording equipment and VR headset during recordings
  • Respond to feedback and re-record as needed to reach approval

Requirements

You must be detail-oriented, physically precise, and comfortable working with specialized devices and wearable recording equipment. This role requires patience for repetitive, precision-oriented tasks and the ability to follow complex instructions exactly.

Applicants must be located in the U.S., have a stable high-speed internet connection, and a secure U.S. address for equipment shipment and return. You should be comfortable wearing a VR headset for extended periods.

  • Keen attention to detail and ability to follow complex instructions precisely
  • Manual dexterity and physical task precision in varied household environments
  • Comfort operating specialized devices (UMI gripper) and wearable recording equipment
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to incorporate iterative feedback
  • Reliable access to a fully equipped U.S. household, stable high-speed internet, and a secure U.S. shipping address
  • Willingness to wear a VR headset for extended periods

Compensation, schedule, and logistics

Pay is $30 per hour during the pilot phase. This is a contractor, part-time role with an expected minimum of 20+ hours per week. Onboarding begins soon, followed by near-term task start.

OpenTrain will ship recording equipment, the UMI gripper, and hand-tracking gear to your U.S. address; you are responsible for providing recording space, lighting, and connectivity at home.

  • $30 per hour (pilot phase)
  • Contractor, part-time — 20+ hours/week
  • Equipment (UMI gripper, tracking and recording gear) provided and shipped to your U.S. address
  • You provide space, lighting, and internet suitable for video recording

Who should apply and how it works

This role is a great fit for freelancers who enjoy hands-on, repeatable work and want to build a portfolio in AI training and robotics data collection. No advanced technical degree is required — attention to detail, steady physical performance, and clear communication are most important.

If selected, you'll complete onboarding with OpenTrain, receive equipment shipment, and begin recording according to project schedules and feedback cycles.

  • Entry-level friendly — ideal for detail-oriented contributors with manual dexterity
  • Strong fit for people interested in personal robotics, hands-on data collection, and iterative improvement
  • Onboarding, equipment shipping, and project coordination are handled by OpenTrain AI
