About AI training work (why it matters)
AI training—also called data collection or annotation—is how human expertise is turned into examples machines learn from. For robotics, high-quality video demonstrations of everyday tasks teach models how people actually move and manipulate objects in home environments.
Contributors often work remotely, choose flexible hours, and directly influence how next-generation AI systems behave.
This work is hands-on, detail-oriented, and directly used to improve real AI systems.
No prior AI training experience required if you meet the project’s practical qualifications.
The role
As a Household Data Video Capture Specialist you will record and submit video demonstrations of everyday household tasks using a UMI gripper wearable device and associated recording equipment. Your recordings will follow task-specific rubrics so robotics teams can learn from realistic human motion and manipulation.
OpenTrain AI is hiring contractors for a short, focused engagement. The role emphasizes reliable, repeatable data collection and the ability to incorporate reviewer feedback to raise data quality.
Position type: Contractor, part-time.
Data type: VIDEO — data collection for personal robotics.
Location requirement: work from an equipped Argentine household (Argentina only).
What you'll do
Follow detailed instructions to capture high-quality, specification-compliant videos using the UMI gripper wearable and any required hand-tracking/VR equipment. Submit recordings and written notes, respond to reviewer feedback, and refine your technique as requested.
Set up and operate recording equipment and the UMI gripper to mimic realistic hand movements while performing tasks.
Record multiple takes that meet task rubrics and project standards.
Read and apply written feedback from reviewers; iterate to improve data quality.
Document any edge cases, failures, or deviations as instructed.
Requirements
The project values practical, real-world knowledge of household tasks and careful execution. Preserve high accuracy with consistent application of rubrics and attentive written communication.
Fluency in Spanish and English (ability to read instructions and write feedback in both languages).
Access to a fully equipped Argentine household environment for recording (required).
Manual dexterity and comfort wearing and operating VR headsets, hand-tracking gloves, and the UMI gripper device.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex specifications precisely.
Comfort working independently on remote contractor tasks and iterating based on reviewer feedback.
Comfort with prolonged VR headset use.
Schedule, pay, and commitment
This engagement runs approximately 4 weeks. The project estimates about 40 hours per week, although the minimum stated time expectation is 20+ hours/week. You will be engaged as a contractor and should plan your schedule accordingly.
Pay is hourly at $15–$30 USD per hour, with estimated total earnings for the project of $1,200–$2,400 based on the typical schedule above.
Apply through your OpenTrain account. If selected, you will receive detailed task instructions, technical setup guidance, and the rubrics you must follow. You will submit recorded videos and written notes through the project portal and receive reviewer feedback to improve future submissions.
OpenTrain supports contractors with clear specifications and feedback loops so you can develop repeatable, high-quality recordings and build a verifiable portfolio of AI training work.
Prepare: ensure your household setup and recording gear meet the project checklist before beginning.
Record: follow rubrics exactly and submit requested takes.
Iterate: use reviewer feedback to refine subsequent recordings.
Apply: submit your interest via your OpenTrain profile to be considered for this contract.
