About AI Safety Evaluation
AI training is the human work behind modern artificial intelligence. Specialists write prompts, review model responses, and classify content so advanced systems become more accurate, useful, and responsible.
In this role, your scientific judgment will help assess how AI handles sensitive and dual-use information. Your expertise can directly shape the safety and quality of models used for technical questions.
The Role
OpenTrain is seeking a German Scientific AI Safety Evaluator for remote freelance work. You will create expert-level prompts in German across specialized scientific topics, evaluate AI-generated answers, and apply structured classification guidelines.
The work focuses on chemistry, biology, radiological and nuclear science, and related technical areas. You will contribute focused expertise from a specific scientific subfield rather than broad general coverage.
Remote contractor position
Default commitment of approximately 7 hours per week
Part-time schedule of less than 20 hours per week
Compensation of $58 to $62 per hour
Applicants in Germany and wider Western Europe are preferred
Applicants elsewhere are welcome
What You'll Do
You will combine advanced scientific knowledge with careful evaluation of AI-generated content. Work will follow structured guidelines for accuracy, helpfulness, classification, and safe treatment of sensitive information.
Write expert-level prompts in German on specialized scientific subjects
Review AI-generated responses for scientific accuracy and helpfulness
Annotate and classify prompts and conversations using evaluation guidelines
Apply scientific judgment to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear topics
Evaluate technical content involving dual-use information
Focus your contributions on a specific scientific subfield
Requirements
This opportunity requires PhD-level scientific expertise and the ability to communicate precisely in both German and English. Your background should support careful assessment of laboratory, computational, safety, security, and dual-use considerations.
Ongoing or completed PhD in chemistry, biology, or a closely related scientific discipline
Native or near-native German proficiency
Business-level written English for technical prompt writing
Deep familiarity with modern laboratory or computational techniques
Strong scientific judgment about safety, security, and dual-use information
Ability to write precise technical prompts
Ability to assess the quality of specialized AI model responses
Relevant Scientific Backgrounds
Relevant expertise may come from a focused scientific subfield rather than from every subject listed below. Experience evaluating technical content or working with safety-sensitive information is particularly useful.
Organic or inorganic synthesis
Molecular biology, microbiology, virology, or genetics
Radiochemistry or nuclear chemistry
Energetic materials
Radiation physics
Chemical safety and security
Biosafety and biosecurity
Hazardous-materials handling
Reviewing, grading, or red-teaming technical content
Who Should Apply
Apply if you have deep expertise in a specific scientific discipline, can write and evaluate technical material in German, and are comfortable making nuanced judgments about scientific accuracy and responsible handling of sensitive information. Radiological and nuclear expertise from a chemistry background is also welcome.
