About AI Training and Audio Transcription

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Contributors prepare and review examples that help AI systems understand language, speech, images, and other real-world information.

In audio projects, accurate transcripts help models recognize spoken language in realistic conditions. Your careful work with accents, dialect cues, overlapping speakers, background noise, and natural speech patterns can help improve how AI understands German.

  • Remote, web-based AI training work
  • Work with real-world spoken-language recordings
  • Prior AI experience is not required

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a German Audio Transcriptionist to create accurate, verbatim transcripts of German-language recordings used to improve spoken-language AI systems. You will apply detailed transcription conventions consistently while working with recordings that may include crosstalk, background noise, filled pauses, incomplete utterances, non-verbal sounds, dialect cues, and multiple simultaneous speakers.

This is an entry-level contract opportunity for a German specialist with excellent listening and written-language skills. Work is performed independently and asynchronously using web-based tools and task-based assignments.

  • Role: German Audio Transcriptionist
  • Data type: Audio
  • Task type: Transcription
  • Language: German
  • Experience level: Entry level

What You’ll Do

You will turn challenging German-language recordings into precise, detailed transcripts. Accuracy and consistency are especially important when speech is noisy, incomplete, informal, or shared by multiple speakers.

  • Listen to German-language audio and produce precise verbatim transcripts
  • Distinguish and identify speakers throughout each recording
  • Capture filler words, non-verbal sounds, incomplete utterances, and other spoken-language phenomena
  • Follow transcription style and formatting guidelines consistently
  • Maintain accuracy when working with noisy, overlapping, or otherwise difficult recordings
  • Work independently and asynchronously with web-based tools

Required Skills and Qualifications

You should be able to understand difficult spoken German and represent it accurately in writing. The role requires careful judgment, reliable independent work, and consistent adherence to detailed task instructions.

  • Native or near-native German fluency, including strong written German
  • Exceptional listening skills for difficult, noisy, or overlapping speech
  • Ability to identify speakers and preserve filler words, non-verbal sounds, and incomplete utterances
  • Careful attention to spelling, punctuation, formatting, and detail
  • Consistent application of transcription style and formatting conventions
  • Ability to work independently and reliably
  • Comfort using web-based tools and following task guidelines
  • Authorization to work as an independent contractor in the United States

Helpful Background

Prior AI experience is not required. Experience in related language, transcription, or media work may help you approach the recordings and guidelines with confidence.

  • Professional transcription, court reporting, or stenography
  • Subtitling or closed-captioning
  • Media post-production or audio-editing tools
  • Linguistics or German-language studies
  • Annotation workflows
  • Knowledge of German regional dialects and colloquial speech

Why This Work Matters

Every major AI system depends on examples prepared and reviewed by people. By transcribing natural German speech with precision, you help create the language data AI systems need to better understand how people actually communicate.

AI training is a rapidly growing field that can offer flexible, remote work. It is a practical way to contribute to cutting-edge technology while building experience in language data and AI development.

  • Help improve AI understanding of spoken German
  • Work remotely with flexible, task-based assignments
  • Build experience in a growing AI training industry
